The Other Tom Posted July 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2007 My wife and I want to do a couple of days in London pre-cruise. I know Europe is expensive these days, especially to us Yanks. What can I expect to pay for a reasonable ( not fancy) hotel in London ? Any recommendations ?
Morgans Posted July 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2007 Can't help with price as you will want the price in dollars. Try the Holiday Inn website and see what prices come up on there. There is a pleasant Holiday Inn Express in Victoria (Belgrave Road I think) where we stayed. It was clean and comfortable - good breakfasts included in the cost. Also try the Thistle chain - they have some lovely hotels in the centre. Malmaison (Charterhouse Square) and The Rookery are also good quality hotels but may come up as expensive. The hotels used by the cruise companies tend to be expensive too. http://www.londontown.com is a good site to have a look at.
dbh62ark Posted July 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2007 Tom, hotel prices vary widely depending on your dates of travel, and there are still some good deals to be found. It really depends on location too, and I recommend paying extra to stay in a central location to save time commuting. But since the London tube system is so great, that gives you a lot of options. The Best Western Mornington Hotel is one of my favorite budget choices in the past, but I noticed on tripadvisor.com that the recent reviews are not good (we have not stayed there in the past few years). Have you tried the British Isles/Western Europe section of these boards? Here's a recent thread to get you started: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=576506. Have a great trip, Donna
paulanddarnell Posted July 25, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 25, 2007 Tom, if you check out the Thistle hotels, use the code LLL91. Another very nice cc put that code up, and I got a great discount. You can really save some$$ on the central London locations.

We booked 2 nights at the Crown Plaza :) in London pre cruise through NCL and it includes breakfast. NCL also uses the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum, which we're using in October. We spent 6 nights at the Crowne Plaza St. James in May....very nice. Try the Prince Albert Pub for dinner, just up the street from the hotel. MsRuckus Posted August 2, 2007 #9 Share Posted August 2, 2007 check biddingfortravel.com. It gives you a great idea of how to bid on priceline. We booked three rooms for two nights at the beginning and one night at the end of our cruise next week through priceline at a 4-5 star hotel for $250. dbh62ark Posted August 2, 2007 #10 Share Posted August 2, 2007 Just keep in mind for those who haven't used Priceline or Hotwire before that there are some disadvantages that you need to know about. The hotels are not refundable if you are unable to travel for any reason. You can save a lot of $$, but check out the hotels that you might be getting. We usually don't use these services for international trips because the hotels are too important to us (we do use Priceline and Hotwire in the U.S.). If you check out the reviews on http://www.tripadvisor.com for the hotels that are revealed in advance on http://www.biddingfortravel.com or http://www.betterbidding.com, you'll find that there are often reasons why these hotels are deeply discounted on these opaque sites. :) Happy travels, Donna
