Question regarding 1st night.................

Recommended Posts

I am a first time cruiser and was wondering what takes place on the first night that you board the ship? Is there any special events or do you just relax from traveling all day?

Thanks:confused:

There is always a welcome aboard show for all passengers. Try not to miss it and get there early to get a good seat...loads of things will be explained to you while you are there. Happy Cruising :D

The welcome aboard show will be after dinner and will give you a small sample of the week's evening entertainment to come.

Dinner will be served in the dining room as well as in the buffet.

Various bars aboard the ship will be open and the casino will open after the ship has entered international waters.

First night on the ship is generally laid back and casual as people get a feel of the ship and start meeting other fellow passengers.

Have lunch in the windjammer, get a nice fu fu drink of some kind and sit and relax, watch the people, and wait for the luggage to arrive. You get you luggage and find out if you packed too much stuff and now need to look for places to stow it. Then you put you suitcases under the bed. You hang up the large trash bag in your closet for the dirty laundry, get your life vest out and ready for the life boat drill, go back on pool deck (easier to walk down step then up steps to the muster deck) for another drink, read you compass which tells you show times and which nites are formal and casual. The Show first night is usually a welcome aboard show (1 is for late seating and 1 is for main seating) brush up on your bingo skills (tons of bingo games during cruise). Go to diner and then some more time in the lounge.

Okay now it's time to rest up from the traveling all day. Or do what we do, arrive the day before which takes into consideration any delays or flight cancellations or lost luggage, waking up the next day in you hotel fully rested and ready to go on your cruise.

Enjoy your cruise there is plenty of time to relax after the cruise. On cruise # 10 then you start to plan the "Relax" thing until then you have way too much to do.

as many folks do not see luggage til after dinner, especially on Voyager or Ultra Voyager (Freedom) class with all the people. So folks just show in the travel clothes, meet their staff & fellow diners, then go enjoy a show or hit the Diamond lounge for free cocktails before dinner & after.

So do what you want on the first night, if you are tired, then go to sleep! No one will be talking trash about that. Some of us have long flights with many stops before our boarding city and that can drain you. RCCL air loves to fy us in day of the cruise so we may ditch the show to go to bed for 12 hours. The sea air with an open balcony, the rock of the ship, makes us sleep like a baby.

Do I need to pack something special to wear that night???

Thanks:confused:

As others said, you don't have to wear anything special that night. The first night, most anything will be seen in the dining room. Since you probably won't get your luggage until after the ship has sailed (and may or may not have it before dinner), we pack a change of clothes (casual) in our carry-on. We usually travel in slacks due to changing temperatures in airports, airplanes, etc. but we pack swimsuit/shorts/hat, etc. in a carry-on. When we get to the ship we change in to those out of our travelling clothes so we are more comfortable roaming the ship or hanging out at the pool. Then if we don't have luggage before dinner, we have our travelling clothes to put back on for dinner.

First day/night: Muster (lifeboat drill), meet your cabin steward and let them know any special requests you might have, meet your dining room waiter and asst. waiter and let them know any special requests you might have , meet your table companions,. Other than that....roam the ship, hang out at the pool, have a foo-foo drink, go to the welcome aboard show, check out the casino, etc. Be sure to read the Daily Compass that will be in your room when you arrive. This will tell you the time and place of all of the day's activities. It will tell you which dining venues are open and at which times. It will tell you the opening/closing times of each bar. It will tell you when the band will be playing at the pool. It will tell you when the show is, when the dj will be playing in the disco, when other bands are playing in other lounges. It will tell you the spa hours, the fitness center hours, any specialty classes in the fitness center. It will tell you the time the casino slots and tables open. This will be in your room when you arrive the first day for that day's events. You will get a new one every evening that will give you all the times and events for the next day.
