hotel near miami airport

We are considering a hotel near the airport in miami since DD(16 y.o.) and myself will be spending 2 nights pre-cruise. We are chosing a hotel that has an airport shuttle and also a shuttle to the dolphin mall. Is this a good idea?

Are there any restaurants around there and also how much will a cab cost from the airport to the port?

I would recommend the Holiday Inn Downtown port of Miami, it is right across from the Bayside Marketplace which has a ton of shops and restaurants. You can also see your ship pull in the morning of your cruise. It is a 10$ cab ride to the port.

We used Priceline once and stayed at the Hotel Sofitel near the airport the night before the cruise. We got to MIA late and knew all we were going to do was go to the hotel and go right to bed. I think it's a 4 star hotel at their site. However, if you're staying for 2 nights before the cruise, I agree with Sue. The Holiday Inn Port of Miami/Bayside is in a great location.
