Destiny boarding questions

A few quick questions for those of you who have recently sailed on Destiny:

 

-What time did you board and how long was the line (time from showing up at port to being inside the boat)

-Any guesses as to when the boarding line is at its longest?

-What time is the muster drill?

We sailed 6/10 - 6/17.

 

We arrived at the pier around 12:30. The line was quite long. We got through the gate reasonably quickly (say 10-15 min), but after the long walk down to the terminal building, the put our luggage through the x-ray machines and we went upstairs and the line was *LONG*. We were with my father who cannot walk well and we had a wheelchair for him. The escort for the wheelchair cut past most of the lines and we made it through in about 20 minutes. We were up on the Lido deck getting lunch at 12:55. Judging by the lines, it looked to be about an hour long wait between the line to get your S&S card and then the line to get through the metal detectors and onto the ship. I think the 12:00-2:00 time frame was extremely busy. Many people were trying to get on-board and get lunch. I know that many people who came in the day before were trying to get in then.

 

After lunch and visiting our stateroom, we went out for a walk around Old San Juan. We returned around 5:00 PM. The line seemed to be shorter. I think I heard that 3:00-5:00 is a good time to come on-board. You miss the pre-lunch rush and also the dinner-time rush when many people get in from flights that land in the afternoon.

 

Muster drill is 9:30 for the 10:00 departure time.

Cool! That gives me a little comfort. Our flight doesn't get in until 3:30 on 8/12 and I was worried that the lines would be ridiculously long. It's a family cruise and there will be about 20 of us. My great-grandmother will be going as well and I didn't want her waiting too long before she was on the ship. Although last time since she was in a wheel chair we got to skip the line and were on the ship in 10-15 minutes. The only painful part about that was waiting the exrta 45 minutes to an hour for everyone else to board.

We got there around 2:30. There was no wait at all accept at the security checkpoint. This is of course a good thing as it gives you more time to sample the duty free booze. ;)

OK, so the muster drill seems to be at 9:30pm. If I normally have late seating dinner (at least 8pm I assume), can I show up at the early seating that night to avoid rushing through dinner to make it to the muster drill? Can you eat anywhere/anytime the first night or they only allow a more casual dress code but you still have to show up at your scheduled time & place?

You will be given a dining time specific for only the first night upon boarding. There are only 2 times (I think) that evening and it's open seating. You'll have plenty of time to make the Muster Drill even if you're in the late seating. The Lido Deck buffet and Pizza will be open as well. The dress code is casual.

You said that you got off the ship and toured Old San Juan. I didn't know that you were allowed off once you boarded. Is there anything special you have to do in order to do this? Our flight gets in to San Juan at noon and we wanted to walk around but we don't have anywhere to put our luggage and we didn't want to carry it all day. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

We were on the June 17 sailing.

You do not have to do anything special to get back off. We had no problems as things are marked. When you get back on you go through a different line than the main crowd. Make sure you take your Sail & Sign Card.
