Atlantis Questions

Recommended Posts

I know these questions have been asked before but I have heard many different versions and I want to try and get the facts straight. Is the cost $25.00 per person to get into the aquarium? Does this cover any other attractions at Atlantis? How far away is Atlantis from the pier? Is there special times to watch the feedings of the sharks?

Sorry to ask so many questions! I cannot find a RCCL excurision that will accomidate my family due to many age restrictions so I figured a trip to the aquarium would be a good try. And it is cheaper than the RCCL excursions! I would love to hear from families with small children (under 5) and see what they did in Nassau.

Thanks!

colette5479,

We have visited the Atlantis twice - once on a Disney cruise and once for a vacation destination. When we were on the cruise, we found out that it was cheaper to rent a room for the day at the hotel next door (I think it was the Comfort Suites:confused: I can check that out if you want) - by doing this we received passes for everyone to use all of the facilities at Atlantis. Atlantis is very strict about who they let into the pool area. You will receive an armband good for the day and they WILL check to see if you are eligible to enter. It was a wonderful place to spend the day. The hotel next door is within walking distance, too. The kids loved the pool and slides and my husband and I enjoyed walking through the Dig. The armbands also give you access to the beach area which is really nice.

There will be taxis waiting for you when you get off of the ship. They will pack a bunch of people into a van and then drive like a bat out of h--- to get you to your destination. The kids thought it was fun:rolleyes: . I believe the cost of the taxi was around $5 a person. This was in 2001 however.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info! What exactly is The Digs? Can small children handle it? I have read about the taxi's being fast but I cannot imagine it is no worse than Cozemel. I had to wonder a few times if we were going to make it! I have heard about the Comfor Inn across the street from Atlantis. I might check online and see what kind of price I can get there. Thanks for your help!

colette5479--We are going to Atlantis in a few weeks. I paid $148.50 for a room at the comfort suites, good for 4 passes to Atlantis...full use of facilities, water parks, beach and The Digs (the aquarium). AND I get to use the room at Comfort Suites if I need to (or if your little one needs to rest). Yesterday on the travel channel, Atlantis was rated #3 out of the top ten caribbean beaches, # 1 for families. I think it would be fine for your little ones. The cost of the Digs only is $29/pp, not sure if it's discounted for children. If you look at the Ports of Call forum, there is alot of info on Atlantis and Nassau. Hope that helps.

Just checked out the web site of Atlantis, looks like your kids will love it! Here is a link to the resort map. Click here There were 2 kiddie pools complete with water slides and big pools as well. The Dig appears to be an archeology dig (lost City of Atlantis) that is an aquarium as well. Looks cool. Didn't look up pricing. You could probably call and get more info from them.

We were in Atlantis this February on Navigator.

TIP: If you go to Atlantis and get there BEFORE 9:30 a.m. you can get to the DIG for free.

We did and saved $75. Again, it was in Feb. . If nothing changed you can save money. It's just an aquarium, interesting, nice but IMO not worth so much money.

Hope it helps.

I stayed at Atlantis in Nov. 2001. It is not what I would consider an aquarium, though it is interesting. There are many, many pools of water with fish, sharks, stingrays. You can walk under some of the pools - in a sort of tunnel and over the water on bridges, but it is in no way an informative experience. It is beautiful, but also very staged, glitzy and fake in feeling. You would REALLY enjoy the resort better if you are able to get a room (as others have said) so that you will have passes to all the pools. They constantly check to see if you belong to the resort and have use of the facilities. The slides and pools are a blast! We saw many disappointed people who were site-seeing, but could not use the pools.

A little side note -- I would not stay at the resort again. Little things bothered me enough that it would not be worth the money. The pool water is cold, not heated, kind of shocking in the Bahamas... I think it may have something to do with the many waterfalls. There are no hot tubs near any of the pools. If you want to sit in a whirlpool - you'll have to go to the SPA and pay for the privilege. And my biggest complaint - they CLOSE all of the pools - and turn off all of the lights outside, at 8pm. That's it, pools, bars, music, and all closed down. My DH and I really enjoy sitting by a pool bar, listening to a steel drum band, in that great caribbean weather. But it doesn't happen at Atlantis. In fact the only entertainment you'll find at night - is in the casino, or paying for tickets to a headlining show. So that's the deal - they want you in the casino at night.

Have a great cruise! I'm leaving later this morning on the Empress to Bermuda!
