port canaveral area information

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I found this list on another site and saw it had so much awesome information on it i wanted to share it with all of you. I hope you will find some of the information useful for your visits to the port area.

I hope this doesnt constitute as advertising, i dont think that it does, it is just basic business and attraction information of the area. I am not promoting any business, just passing along things in the area with the contact information that many people ask for in their posts. I didnt write any of this, just posted it for your reading.

Closest Hotels to Port Canaveral

All below 3 Cape Canaveral hotels are about 2 miles from the port and offer rooms with a view of the port, where you will be able to see the cruise ships in the morning. Be sure and sign up for the port shuttles. None of these 3 hotels are on the beach nor is it within walking distance of the beach (5 min cab ride). If you want the beach close, look for a hotel in Cocoa Beach – beachfront hotels are posted further down.

Port Canaveral Parking

Parking at the port is $12.00 a day (that’s per 24 hours) or $84.00 a week – paid up front, cash or credit card. There are no other payment plans.

There are no other parking options available in or around Cape Canaveral except for parking at your hotel if allowed.

There is a six-level parking garage for Cruise terminal 10, all other options are open-air parking.

Which ships use terminal 10? Go here: http://www.portcanaveral.org/cruising/terminals.php

Traveling to and from Orlando (MCO) airport and to the port

When you exit the airport you will merge onto the Highway 528 (also called Beachline 528) and travel about 45 miles to Cape Canaveral. There is one toll to pay which is $1.25. There are no restaurants along the way until the highway ends and becomes a 4-lane surface street. Travel time: 45 mins.

Look here for a huge list of transportation options: http://www.portcanaveral.org/cruisin...dtransport.php

Car Rental

All agree that the cheapest option is to rent a car one-way from the airport, drive to the port, drop luggage/family off at port, drop rental car off and take rental car shuttle back to the port. Repeat in reverse for your post-cruise trip back to the airport. Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Avis and all have drop off locations and free round trip shuttles very close to the port (companies are listed in order of closeness to the port). These four places are open on Sundays and their port shuttles start early in the morning until the afternoon.

National does not have shuttle service to the port. Enterprise has a location on Merritt Island which is a barrier island between the mainland and the beach. They will shuttle you both ways during normal business hours which are M-f 9-6 and Sat 9-12. The closest Dollar car rental is on South Babcock in Melbourne which is about 20 to 25 mins away from the port. Your best bets are Budget, Thrifty, Avis and Hertz.

Look here for car rental coupons and discount codes:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=558119

Avis car rental has agreed to meet or beat prices per Bob Fink

Can I walk to the port from my hotel?

It’s about 2 miles from the closest hotel (Raddison or Country Inns and Suites), along a highway with no sidewalk. Not recommended!

After car rental, the next recommended alternative to a taxi is a shuttle service.

Shuttle companies:

Cocoa beach Shuttle 321-631-4144 or 888-784-4144; www.cbshuttle.com

Art’s Shuttle 321-783-2112 or 800-567-5099; www.artsshuttle.com (Mention Disboard for 10% discount)

Note: Most of the popular shuttle companies servicing the port are not private shuttles (they will wait for all reservations to board before leaving). If you need a private shuttle request it specifically!

Towncar/Private Van companies:

Florida Tours http://www.fltours.com//

Sunrise Florida Transportation. http://www.transportationflorida.com/

Taxi Service to the port and around the port area:

One way from the Orlando airport to the port is 70-80 dollars. Taking a taxi from your Cocoa Beach / Cape Canaveral hotel to the port will run you around $5-7. 10 minutes drive time from anywhere in Cocoa Beach.

About a mile past the entrance to the port (right next door to Country Inns and Suites) is a big Racetrak mini mart/gas station for beer and probably some wine. Go another mile or so and on the left is an ABC liquor store and Publix grocery store. Stores only sell beer and wine and are allowed to sell between 7 am to 2 am except most places on Sunday don’t start until 12PM.

In Feb prior to our 3 night WOnder cruise we went to Cocoa Beach and stayed at Fawlty Towers motel. It is right next to the Ron Jon surf shop. It is an older motel. We try to stay at the Mom and Pop places instead of the chains if we can. Hubby and I are big fans of the British Show Fawlty Towers so we stayed here. We payed just over $99 a night and stayed 2 nights. They have really big rooms. We stayed on the bottom level and had a nice queen size bood and nice ceiling fan and tile floor. each room has a microwave and fridge. There is a publix about 3 blocks away. There is small pool and a nice tiki bar that opens about 5pm and stays pen until midnight. Ron Jon is next door there was a walgreens, MC'd's, Taco bell, and IHOP in walking distance. Plus Ron John and Cocoa Beach Surf company next door. I bought some nice capri's for cheap there. Our first night we ate at the Cocoa Beach Pier and it had 3 restraunts. I can't remember the name but it was realyl good. I had clams and a nice salad. The next am we did the NASA up close tour. This tour takes you closest to the launch pads. This is not for young kids. There were young ones on the bus but most of them slept. From the hotel to NASA it was about 30 minutes. We had breakfast at IHOP and we spent about $20. Next time we will eat at Mc Donald's. Security at NASA if vert time consuming they don't have near enough lines. Prior to the tour you take a picture like you are going on the space shuttle. They were pricy around $15- $20 the tour was from 1030-2pm. And they make stops about every 15-30 minutes. Our treat we seeing the shuttle on the Launch pad even if it was 3 miles away. We saw at least 20 aligators! One was even next to a car! The 3 -d movie with Tom Hanks was fantastic! You could easily spend one full day and half of another. For dinner we went to Publix and bought some items and then went swimming. The next am we had bought some bagels when we were at Publix and had them for breakfast. We were done early so instead of going to the Port Early we played 2 rounds of mini golf at a Place not too far from the port. By the time we finished it was about 1115 and were parked, checked in and on the ship before noon with no lines. This is just an option for those going a day or so ahead to Port Caneveral. Most of the time we stay at Pop Century and drive over but it was high season at WDW so we opted to stay at Cocoa Beach.

Hi Lexi,

Hi Kathy -

Been a long time since I sent a post to you!!! Thanks for all the great info. on Port Canaveral I bookmarked it!

I'm going (solo - no family or friends could go) - on the WB Med repo 8/18/07. Have a couple of days in Paris first. Then next year DH & I and DD Lori & DGS Matt are going on the EB PC repo 8/17/08. I seem to have an Aug. theme going here!!!

Hope you've been well and your family. You sure made our first cruise very enjoyable - hope we'll have a chance to cruise together one day.

Hi Kathy,

I have been just reading as of late. We don't cruise the Magic until Oct 08 Double Dip. We are going to Hawaii on RCI on a 15 nights with 1 night prior to the cruise at DL and then 3 nights after at DL. Just 8 weeks to go!

Hi Lexi,

wow 15 days Hawaii cruise. that is awesome!!

I havnt talked with anyone who has done that. Please let me know how it is, we may try to do one of those in about 6 or 7 years after we move back to Oregon. I would love to hear the details of it.

I also would love to do a double dip sometime when I really am in the mood to just kick back and relax on the beach. That sounds so good. CC is such an awesome island.

Well the sun is starting to come up so I need to get my washing going before it gets hot out. The washer and dryer really heat up the house and I want to make a batch of cookies or cupcakes while it's still cool outside, only 74 right now.

I booked this in April 06 and booked the imaginary cruise to know hwere on the Enchantment in Feb 06. When RCI came out with the hawaii dates for 07 I booked it. Plus it gave me $250 OBC plus as a stock holder I get an additional $250. We did not want to do NCL. Have not heard good things and I am not into flying for that long. So we leave from LA and cruise for 4 days and then have a week on the ship then 4 days back to LA. My 15 day cruise was almost cheaper than my 7 night catg 6 on DCL. It is about $3500. I am flying free and hubby's ticket was $308 and we are doing DL as well. From the 05 taxes I put it inot a CD for a year and then had the intrest plus 06 taxes and only paid the booking fee of $900. We have some good benefits like $200 off baclony for crusing over 10 times this will be our 23 cruise with them. We have acess to the concerige lounge. Free Espresso for hubby and free drinks before diner. Plus on several nights there will be cookies nad strawberries in our cabin. almost 8 weeks to go.
