We will be flying into LGA the night before our cruise on Crown Princess. It will be my birthday. How far is the airport from Manhattan or would it be better to stay by the terminal and take the subway into Manhattan for dinner. Could someone please suggest some hotels near the terminal and some restaurants if we stay in Brooklyn. Thanks

We sailed on the Crown out of Red Hook last September. We transfered straight to the ship from LaGuardia but did stay in midtown Manhattan for a couple of days post-cruise. The trip from the pier to Manhattan wasn't bad at all but that being said, it was a Saturday morning. I really think staying in Manhattan would be a good choice for you. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to travel to the pier. You might check into using a car service. We did this from Manhattan to LaGuardia and it was great.

listing of hotels near LGA. Its about 1/2 hour by cab and $30.00 to Midtown. Its also about $30.00 and 1/2 hour to the Brooklyn Cruise terminal. You need to take a bus to the subway and it will be about 45 minutes to midtown by this mass transit....if you get a metrocard(which you can buy at a machine at the airport) it will be $2.00 each way with free transfers-(buy a $10.00 card which will give you six rides for the price of 5 and can be used by multiple people. If you are going to ride a lot a one day pass for $7.00 can be used by one person for unlimited rides once validated on a day it can be used to 2am I believe- its not a clock 24 hours) If you don't have a metrocard a bus takes 2.00 in coins exact only and the transfer to the train is not free. There are no decent places to dine(as opposed to eat) by the airport. The Brooklyn Marriott is the best full service hotel near the pier. If you do a search here on Brooklyn Cruise terminal you will get a lot of information about resturants ...
