Going on the MIracle in Nov - Looking for suggestions

We'll be cruising aboard the Carnival Miracle in Nov around Thanksgiving and we are looking for something to do that's out of the ordinary; possibly taking a local ferry boat to the an island in the lake. Anyone done this before? Comments?

 

We've heard a lot of negative things about this port of call, but thought heading to an island for a day on the beach would be good. You comments would be much appreciated.
