parks & rec Posted August 3, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2007 We're heading to the caribbean on the Crown Princess and would like to check home - just to make sure not too much partying going on. Any suggestions as to buying prepaid phone cards?
TSM AND JP Posted August 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2007 I was wondering the same thing myself. Can you buy them on the ship, or do you look for them in port. Jenny
iancal Posted August 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2007 We always buy them at small stores on the islands that we visit. How friendly are the people? On two occasions, when we have taken private tours, the guides gave us their cell phones and told us to make a call. In St. Lucia, the owner of a small store did not have any small denomination cards. He insisted that he dial the call for us on his personal cell phone. When it ended (about 10 minutes), he told us it was $3. I tried to give him more money that was necessary but he absolutely refused. We have never seen them on sale on board but frankly we have never looked. Whatever you do, don't by those US carrier cards in the US....they are expensive and they do not work on some of the islands. Avoid those phone booths on the docks that have a big VISA sign on them...they are a complete rip off-especially in Mexico.
