Hi all,

We just got back from a wonderful 2 weeks on the Pacific Princess. I have to say we absolutely LOVED this ship with one exception. The casino was too small with only 4 tables and a roulette wheel. The staff was wonderful and we had great weather. I know lots of people are looking for information on this ship so if you have a question please ask.

Hi Kim,

We were looking at a repo from Vancouver as she often does the Alaska run from Vancouver as a smaller ship. The idea was to do YVR/HNL/PPT, but with her and the Royal both doing world cruises in 2008, who knows where they plan to put her in Sep '09. Have you heard anything/rumours that far ahead while onboard?

Anyway it was just interest as we booked on the Dawn 31 day voyage from SYD/SFO 18 Apr 09. It would appear that many of those who were displaced when the Sun's cruise was cancelled have been relocated to the Dawn with incentives for the previous Sun cancellation. The itin is great...Oz to Fjordland, Dunedin, Wellington & Auckland...on to Suva, Rarotonga, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Honolulu and then SFO...Only problem it's still so far off.

If you've heard anything on the Pacific positionings, it would be great if you could pass it on. Cheers, and...

Ciao for now!!!

Mommykim, did you try the Sterling Steak House and if so was it worth the extra fee? Also the late night bistro (ie buffet area) did you try it? We are going on the Hawaii to Tahiti in November and can not wait. This will be our first non-Mega ship. Thanks for any advice! :D

We ate at the Steakhouse twice during the 2 weeks and found it well worth the money. Great steak and my husband had an amazing shrimp cocktail each time as well. The service was great but if you, like me, like to watch them make the dressing for your Caesar salad you have to ask when ordering it. Otherwise they just roll up the cart add the dressing and then parm and croutons. One note though they switch nights between the Sterling & Sabatini's so keep track of the nights.

We ate at The Bistro each night of the second cruise except the one we ate at the steakhouse and loved it. They have a full pizza and foccacia menu plus things like steak, chicken, lasagna and fish. There were 2 different menus total and they switched them each night.

My DW and I will be on the Tahitian Princess in September. Can you tell us if formal wear is expected on formal nights in the bistro? Thanks.

Absolutely NOT. I don't even think I ever saw a suit coat that was not on a Princess employee. One reason we ate at the Bistro so many times on the second cruise was that hubby did NOT want to wear his tux again. On cruise #1 there were more men in open necked button down shirts than tuxes in the dining room on formal night and that annoyed him. He wore his Dockers and a Polo shirt each evening when we ate there with no problem at all!

Does the ship FEEL small? or crowded in the public rooms?

Not at all. In fact the exact opposite. The ONLY time it felt at all crowded was during Glacier Bay when you could not walk on the walking track because it was the best lookie loo location.

Hi, Mommykim.

We're booked on the Pacific Princess on a couple of Mediterranean 12-day back-to-backs in September 2008. We haven't been on that small of a ship since the old Royal Olympic days.. looking forward to it.

Is it true that due to the size, there are no dry-cleaning facilities onboard ?

Hey Gary,

When I saw your name I had to jump in for a moment to say hello. We were on the Star Princess transatlantic with you and Rita in October '05.

John and I are both fine. He's still peddling the local forecasts. We did the inaugural sailing of the Emerald Princess in April ....Rome to Venice. One of the best cruises we've ever taken.

The end of the month we are taking our annual Bermuda cruise.....this time on Azamara , sort of a new step child of Celebrity.

Say hello to Rita for us. Hope she is doing well.

We had a wonderful time sailing with you both ! :)

That one I can't really answer. I know there were laundry bags and the little forms to fill out but we never sent anything out. I don't like the way Princess has them put little tags on each and every piece of clothing sometimes in very visable places.

I will be on the Pacific Jan. 10th for its first around the world cruise (102 days). I've been on the other Princess ships many times, including the Tahitian, but not the Pacific. Happy to hear you liked it and I will jot down your tips. With so many onboard, we were counting on the laundry and dry cleaning facilities. Sounds as if they do laundry but am still wondering about dry cleaning. There are 24 formal nites!! May have to call Princess. Question: did you ever venture over to the exercise room? Did the equipment look pretty good and was there a lot of it? Not hot and stuffy? (Important question to ask from someone who will be onboard so long!).

I did n not personally ever go to the exercise room but my husband did. He said he was pretty impressed with both the amount of equipment and it's quality considering the size of the ship. Also, as far as doing your own laundry, if you are not particular about the type of soap you use when you do it their machine has a button that will add detergent to your load if you want. That way you might not have to bring along some of your own.

Wow.. have you cruised!!! I have a pressing question- while we are aware that our view will be obtructed by life boats- we are concerned about potential noise perhaps caused by the ships movement. What have you heard about this? Thanks..

  • 1 month later...

Hope you enjoyed your cruise. I am booked on PA from Hawaii to Tahiti leaving on October 13. Can't wait for the time to pass. Looking forward to this cruise since it's the first time to Tahiti and the first time on a mid-sized ship. The question is regarding internet access. Since it is a longer cruise, 11 days, with 4 sea days, I was thinking I might want to use the internet to stay in contact with family members. Do you know if the ship is wired for wifi, and what kind of packages does Princess offer.

Everything I have read so far relating to PA is possitive.

Thanks for any help

Nice you got to do Alaska B2B on the Pacific, I loved that Ship also, for those 51 Days, earlier this year, from Sydney to Anchorage.

Glad to hear you Loved the Ship also, except for the sm casino, we don't use the casino. Thanks for taking the time to report.;)

My Best!

Bill:)
