Has anyone done this boat and seaplane combo this summer? It is offered thru Princess in Ketchikan. We are going in 10 days and wonder if it is worth the trip.

Has anyone done this boat and seaplane combo this summer? It is offered thru Princess in Ketchikan. We are going in 10 days and wonder if it is worth the trip.

 

We took this tour on the 6/30 Northbound sailing of the Sappire and were a little disappointed. The scenery was nice, but the lack of wildlife and the weather (it lived up to its name - wet and foggy) made it a little tedious.

 

We we did see a humpback cow and calf (a wonderful highlight) as well as a couple of bald eagles on the cruise out. On the flight back we saw a couple of black bears.

 

I would definitely opt for a bear viewing tour like Neet's Bay. We took that excursion in 2003 and it was fantastic! While the wildlife sightings are certainly never guaranteed, we saw 2 dozen black bears feasting on salmon. There is also the extra bonus of great flightseeing both ways. Definitely recommended.
