partygirl43 Posted August 7, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2007 Hi-- We're 1st time cruisers on our way to Nassau/Freeport 8/16. I've found plenty of helpful info about Nassau but there seems to be a lack of info about Freeport. My plan is to do shopping/shightseeing in Nassau and a beach day in Freeport/Lucaya? Is this a good plan? Which beaches are accessable to the public, or which hotels offer day passes (I'd like to have access to facilites and bars!!! heee...heee. Thanks in advance. KINGBOBOFTHENORTH Posted August 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Nassau is definitely the place for shopping because it's a good size city with a LOT of stores. Freeport has the Port Lucaya Marketplace for shopping. It's cute and worth a stroll through but very limited compared to Nassau. Not aware of any hotels offering day passes on Grand Bahama Island. Your cruise may offer a beach excursion option which is like a beach day. Most people make the $5 shared taxi-van ride over to the Our Lucaya Resort (Sheraton / Westin) and use the beaches behind the hotel. As the taxi ride is close to a half-hour in length, you get a decent tour of the island along the way and the $5 is a great value. Our Lucaya and the Port Lucaya Marketplace are across the street from each other. There is also a small casino located there. BobK/Orlando
