Kilauea Daily Update issued Aug 7, 2007 08:15 HST Volcanic-Alert Level WATCH - Aviation Color Code ORANGE

Report prepared by the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO):

 

Summary: A lava river continued to flow from fissure segment D. The `a`a flow it feeds continued to widen and its front has touched the forest resulting in some browned foliage. Small earthquakes were located beneath Halema`uma`u crater.

 

last 24 hours at 7/21 eruption site: Fissure segment C produced a couple of small flows. Fissure segment D continued to dominate activity and fed a channel flowing to the northeast. The webcam captured continued widening of the flow to the north. An overflight confirmed that the lobes from the flow front have touched the forest; burning was confined to adjacent trees. The lobes advancing from the flow front are narrow and slow moving.
