Coupon Book Usage

I got one of those crappy coupon books "worth hundreds of $s"! There's only a couple in it I might use. One is buy 2 drinks, get 1 free on the first night. Dumb question, but how do I go about using it? Do I just give it to the waiter? Or do I submit it to the accounts people to be credited to my onboard account?

Never a dumb question!

I'd give it to the waiter:)

I will try to remember to keep my book for you next time. Did not use any of the coupons on our trip.

We don't do their expensive pictures. We take a camera.

We don't do their foo-foo drinks of the day.

We don't do overpriced SPA stuff.

We rarely buy junk in the gift shop.

We might take one of their tours.

We don't do auctions or drag duty free stuff half way round the world.

Don't get me wrong, we do love to cruise, eat in the dining rooms and have drinks and see new places.

In our case, we received the coupon books shortly after we booked through expedia.com. It was expedia.com promotion.

Does every person on a cruise get a coupon book? If so, when is it given to you?

Hey Tom,

I'll see you tomorrow on deck after lunch, lets order 3 drinks and use that coupon book.

Looks like the buy one dinner get one free is for the first night only. Bummer you think it would be valid for the entire cruise.

WE are hoping that todays rain subsides and tomorrow is clear sailing

So I imagine this is more along the lines of something I would ask my TA to provide?

At the bottom of each coupon it says how to use it in really small print. The laundry coupon for example goes to the onboard credit desk. Most of the others go to the service itself (spa, bar, casino). As crappy as people say they are, I will probably use at least 6 - 7 of them.

The TA has offered me an onboard credit book worth $1350 if I book through him. He never explained that there could be all these restrictions (buy one drink get second free, but only on first night).

I thought I'd get a credit on my account that offsets my spending. So this is not true then? Boy these message boards are so informative.

Glad I haven't booked yet.

there is a coupon book and there is onboard credit. 2 different things! we had a $50 onboard credit from our TA (not NCL). OBC can be used for excursions, speciality restaurants, drinks, etc. coupons will have how to use them printed on them.

The TA offered me onboard credit. I did call NCL to check if I could use it for everything that goes on my account and was told that these credits can't be used for gratuities nor gambling. The gambling part was a bit strange 'cos the TA's website specifically said gambling was included. I asked the TA to double check and he confirmed that it can't be used for gratuities but as for the gambling, that can be arranged and said something about it going up in $25 lots. Since I don't do casinos, it's irrelevant to me.

I'm not sure I can can clock up $1350's worth of spending and it would have been more interesting if I could stick the gratuities on but I guess that is not to be.

After reading a number of the messages here, I might hold off booking for awhile and see what discounts come up. I see a post where someone said a Garden Villa came up for less than an AB (which was the one I was aiming for). I'd prefer to save hard cash than get this credit.

$1,350 worth of onboard credits? Something sounds off to me. I was under the impression $150 of onboard credits was the usual "max" that is offered.

It might be that much if you buy jewelry, drinks, tours, pre and post cruise hotels, shuttles, photo stuff, auction, bingo, junk, etc.

In any event, you have to spend money to get it. There is no CASH or OBC available.

Regarding the drink coupon, we had to order 3 drinks at once :( , and give the bartender the coupon then.

I understand that it is possible to rack up that amount of onboard charges. What I was saying is that $1,350 of onboard credits seems very odd to me. Has anyone here received an onboard credit from a TA or cruiseline in an amount that even approaches $1,350?

It was not for a $100K suite. They don't do those on the Jade. 'Twas just an AB penthouse - 2 adults @6099 and 2 kids. $1350 comes to just under 10%. Another TA offered me $300 cash off the whole caboodle and when I said it just wasn't worth the effort, then offered me $200 onboard credit on top. I must admit $1350 sounds way out of line - I wonder if these guys are kosher.

Something is not right..if this agency is a high producing agency, the commission on this sailing is approximatly $1119.36. So they are paying for part of your cruise?

I don't know how they do things in the USA (this TA is US based) but I booked the Jewel back in 2005 through a UK based TA (I'm UK resident) and the price I paid was 10% off the published rates at that time. There is one TA here who generally knocks 10% - I guess this may because they generate so much business. I'm not using the UK TA this time round because with the drop in the value of the USD, it is far cheaper to pay US rates.

I don't know if it is OK to name this US TA but if you email me on cruisecriticBB.2.worm@spamgourmet.com, I'll let you know who it is.

yea, but you can always use it for tours..can't you? I'd love to use OBC for tours, and if not, then drinks. I can always find something to buy in the gift shop...all these are allowable, right? Does it come off your bill at the end? How does it work?
