For All Of You Who Have Been To Atlantic City,NJ

I don't think many places other than Philly can give you the real Philly cheesesteak experience. I'm sure somewhere in AC has good ones. It's probably worth the hour or so drive into the city to go to Gino's, Pat's, or Tony Luke's.

There is no substitue for a Philly cheese steak. Anywhere else the roll is different the prep is not the same and you don't get the south philly charm. I agree with the overs just go to Philly abd as for a steak with.

On the Boardwalk it will be a Jersey cheese steak, get salt water taffy's on the boardwalk instead.

There is a sports bar on the restaurant floor of The Pier at Caesar's that has the best substitute for an actual Philly cheesesteak. The Pier is the new shopping complex right on the ocean across from Caesar's and I think the name of the restaurant/bar is Game On

It's not on the boardwalk but if you go to the Borgata (in the Marina section) they have a very large food court called The Cafeteria -it's next to the poker room and down the escalator. One of the places in the food court is Tony Luke's from Philly. Haven't tried them but I would bet that the ones in Philly are the best.

So they finally opened it. I thought they would never get that thing done.

OP, forget the cheese steak if you dont want to drive to Philly. But try the buffet at Wild West Casino. Its excellent.

Actually the BEST cheese steak, hands down, IMHO, is in Atlatic City - it can be found at the White House Sub Shop at 2301 Artic Ave. (at the corner of Mississippi and Artic) It is very well known and always busy. I personally do not care for the cheese on Pat's or Gino's and the bread used at the White House cannot be duplicated. In fact, there was a thread about it last month - try a seach on the RCI board. The White House is very small with only a few tables, but most people take out. When you go, there will be two lines - one for a table and one for the take out - make sure you get in the right one! Their hoagies/subs are fabulous, too. If you go to Atlantic City - do not miss it. In fact, there are pictures of all the famous people who have visited there on the walls. I once read that Frank Sinatra had hoagies flown to him in Las Vegas from the White House. Hope this helps.

Born and raised in So Philly and I could not agree more. The White House has the BEST in NJ bar none. Forget Pat's & Gino's they are NOT at all what a Philly Cheese Steak is all abouy. Real Philadelphians don't get cheese steaks there (only tourists). A real cheese steak should NEVER have either Velveeta or Mayo on it - UGH!!!!

Hello,

Originally from Jersey. Been to AC many times. There are two places that I remember that served cheesesteaks on the boardwalk. They were both just Okay. Do yourself a favor and head over to Philly ( try Pats' on South Street) to get a "real" Philly cheesesteak.

I believe you are thinking of JIM'S on South Street (Pat's is on Passyunk Ave & Geno's is across the funky intersection).

Here is a copy/paste of something I wrote a few days ago in response to someone visiting Philly and asking where to go for cheesesteaks (note, all but 1 person who commented agreed that JIM'S is better than Pat's, Geno's, and Tony Luke's). I'll also give you the link to that thread so you can read all the comments if you wish: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=599502

My remarks on this topic were:

I've lived in Philly area all of my 38 years, went to college IN the city (Drexel Univ, next to UPenn), and have been working in the city for over 12 yrs now. Here are my 2 cents on a few things:

* Cheesesteak -- I'd go with Jim's (avoid Pat's, Geno's, and Tony Luke's, they all are tourist traps with more hype than quality).

I have to say, I agree with the posters who have stated that locals generally do not favor the 3 "big names". I'd have to be absolutely starving and with no other option for me to eat from any of those three.

Also, PROVOLONE is the way to go! The Whiz & the Velveeta -- sorry, these are a disgrace and aren't even real cheese.

Just my opinion and I know we all are entitled to disagree :)

Here it is, I hit the wrong button.

I know what I'm talking about and here is the gospel.

THE BEST CHEESESTEAK HOAGIES AND ITALIAN SUBS ON THE PLANET ARE SERVED AT THE WHITE HOUSE.

The WHITE HOUSE is located at the corner of Arctic & Mississippi, 3 long blocks inland from just south of Caesar's Boardwalk. It's very walkable. Take a cab if you must, but if you are making the trip to AC, and you like sub sandwiches, you do not want to miss this place.

A Philly style cheesesteak is thinly sliced eye of the round on an italian roll topped with grilled onions and cheese wiz, however American and Provolone are acceptable and even preferred. If you add lettuce & tomato it becomes a Hoagie. The WH excels at the hoagie style cheesesteak. Get it with mayo, or oil, and "hots" and ketchup on the side. The WH "regular" is their signature sandwich, an italian cold cut hoagie. The "special" adds even more meat than the very generous regular. Trust me, you will never have a better italian cold cut sub, and will be spoiled forever. In addition to the generous ingredients in a White House sub, those ingredients will be surrounded by the very best sub roll you have ever tasted. Some say it's the AC water, but whatever it is, the rolls supplied by Formica Bakery, and delivered fresh out of the oven just about every hour will also spoil you for all time.

Sit in a booth and take in the photos of celebrities who have "dined" at the White House. Look on the back wall in front of the restrooms for the photos of Burt Lancaster and Susan Sarandon in the White House filming scenes for the 1980 film "Atlantic City". My own experience with some of these celebrities occurred about 10 years ago one evening when Joan Rivers was in the front booth, and Dr. J was waiting for his carry out order.

They've been at it for over 60 years in the same location. Make the effort to get there.

OK if you really want the BEST Philly cheese steak you will find it in Roxoborough (still in Phila., but not in Center City). Philly magazine runs a "Best of" every year and D'Alessando's & Chubby's come in 1st & 2nd consistantly. Both are located on Henry Avenue directly across the street from each other and both have cheese steaks to die for. Make sure you arrive hungry cause these two places make a BIG cheese steak. If you can't get out of Center City to try these two places there is a fantastic little joint on 2nd & Snyder called John's. His Roast Pork sandwich is something you will remember forever. Cheese Steaks are great also. This place is easy to miss (vy small white one story bldg) with extremely limited hrs. I think he closes at 3PM - if you get to Phila check out these places for a "true" cheese steak.
