HLP Posted August 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2007 Thinking of driving to whistler mountain for a day trip from our 10/12 Pacific nortwest cruise on Celebrity. We are in port from 8am to 8pm. That would leave us about 4 hours at whistler. Interested in some feedback like,is it practicle, worth it,nice scenery etc. Thanks HLP
LeftcoastBC Posted August 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2007 Well first of all it is a trip well worth it. Scenery, mountains and ocean plus the Village itself. I don't know if I would tackle the trip in a 8-8 cruise stop though without the backup of returning to the ship on time. :) You are into October and the weather may be iffy up near the mountain and the road and construction are not for the faint at heart sometimes. I guess it depends on your comfort zone. The road is certainly getting better and it is not unusual for day trippers and I have done it myself. The thing with the road is sometimes it get shut down for whatever and your stuck. Doesn't happen often just too often if you get my drift. Where's your next Port? lol. It really is a great trip if the weather is good. Maybe just start out and play it by ear the drive is nice and there are stops you can make along the route regardless. sultan_sfo Posted August 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2007 Agree with LeftcoastBC! We drove (while on land tour) from Vancouver to Whistler in summer 4 years ago. It is a mountain road and if damp/wet one has to go slower. We are used to mountain roads here in CA driving SF to Lake Tahoe or Yosemite. /Sultan
HLP Posted August 16, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted August 16, 2007 LeftcoastBC, Thanks for the input. That was exactly what I was looking for. The road driving doesnt bother me but the shut down part sure does. The ships next port is Naniamo,so I guess I could still catch the ship there. I think I'll do exactly as you suggest. Check the weather for that day. Then drive it and be prepared to turn back it it looks like the road conditions are bad. sultan_sfo Thanks as well. Im from the bay area as well and just returned from Tahoe last weekend. So Im used to mountain roads. But a road closure would ruin it for us. Thanks again
