Yes, take a look @ www.thelakescairns.com.au. Beautiful & Reasonable 4 stars + property. My group of 20 is staying there for our GBR excursion.

We stayed at the Cairns International last year which was very nice, well priced and walking distance to the GBR cruise we went on.

We're staying at Rydges Tradewinds which looks to be in quite a good position. We always refer to Tripadvisor prior to booking accommodation, and the reviews of this hotel seem reasonable.

We're booked in to the Floriana Guesthouse at #183 on the Esplanade. It was highly recommended in Lonely Planet and although the current edition is 3 years old, I checked with them to see if they are still recommending it in the edition being issued in November, and they said Yes. A flat runs about $A110 per night for two people. Again it all depends on your budget. Their web site is www.florianaguesthouse.com if you are interested in checking them out. When are you going? I'll be returning mid-October and can give you feedback then if that's any good to you.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn for three nights last Feb and we were very pleased with the accomodations. Every room seemed to have a great view. The Esplanade Boardwalk was just across the street. GBR tour within easy walking distance. We were on a post cruise ten day tour.

 

Make sure you take in the Night Market while you are there.

Will be in Cairns area 2/13-14/08 and have been looking at places to stay, thanks for your postings. The places recommended look great. We arrive in the area around 7:00 p.m 2/13 from Ayers Rock, have one full day 2/14 (doing the Cairns in a day trip)and then fly out next morning 2/15 to Sydney to catch Statendam 2/16. Not much time at resort but want a place so we can cram in as much as possible in the time we have......going to need that day at sea to catch up.
