Montreal suggestions??

We're sailing out of Montreal in early October, and had assumed we'd only have time to get from the airport to the ship....so to be honest, I haven't done much thinking about Montreal.

 

But just found out that we are actually flying in the day before, so have from about 5:00 in the evening to about 1:00 in the afternoon to do SOMETHING.

 

Looking for suggestions: What one thing would you do in Montreal? What is the "can't miss" site, activity, or tour to keep us amused while we wait to board the ship?

Hate to disagree with you but "Canda's best restaurants in Montreal????" Yes Montreal does have a few good restaurants but not the best in Canada by a long shot.

 

AS to what to do in your short timeframe - I would suggest going to Old Town Montreal and make sure you visit the Notre Dame Cathedral as it is very beautiful. Then just stroll around the streets of Old Montreal enjoying all the little shops and street vendors. I have picked up some very good art work there (prints) that I enjoy looking at every day on my walls. Lots of sidewalk cafes for a cup of coffee and people watching too.

UGH! Don't call it old town!

 

If you are here for a day, I suggest that you go see Old Montreal and stroll down the cobblestone streets, the quaint shops and the art galleries and of course Notre-Dame.

 

Here are some other suggestions...

 

Go shopping in downtown Montreal, along St-Catherine street between Guy and Bleury. Go for the bars and clubs on crescent street. Go to the botanical gardens and insectarium (if you are there at the right time, the insectarium also has a nice buffet). St-Joseph's oratory. Mount-Royal park. The Biodome. The casino.

 

There are many excellent restaurants in Montreal as well. Montrealers like good food at reasonable prices. If you can get the reservation, try Toque, though a bit pricey, it's one of the best restaurants in Montreal. But there are plenty of choices, from the simple St-Hubert rotisserie chicken, delicious smoked-meat sandwiches or a fantastic steak at Gibby's or Le Queue du Cheval.
