PDX2Cruiser Posted August 23, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2007 I'm on the NCL Star this Saturday the 25th. We've been on an Alaska cruise before so I've been asleep at the wheel when it came to planning and reserving our excursions. Kept telling myself I'll do it later. Well, later has snuck up on me. Now of course, I can't reserve b/c it's too late, and I'm worried that I won't get everything I'd like. :( Here's what I'm interested, I'm curious if any of you have a sense of which of these tend to sell out or have independently operated options: Juneau: Mendenhall Glacier Lake Canoe or Capture Juneau Photo Tour Ketchikan: Alaska Rainforest Santuary Nature Walk or Rainforest Canoe Adventure Skagway: Glacier Point Wilderness Safari or Chilkoot Lake Wildlife Exploration If you've got opinions on any of these, that would be helpful too. Budget Queen Posted August 23, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2007 I would submit a shore excurson reservation form shortly after you get on the ship. There will be forms at the shore excursion deck and a drop box. If they are sold out they will notify you and you can perhaps pick something else. You should have a good chance of getting your selections. In Skagway the Glacier Point Safari, is definately the better of your two choices. The "wildlife" out of Haines, is iffy at best. Budget Queen Posted August 23, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2007 I also do highly recommend the Tracy Arm add on jet boat. You are NOT likely to get anywhere near the Sawyer glaciers otherwise. The jet boat was definately superior for wildlife and getting much better views.
PDX2Cruiser Posted August 23, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted August 23, 2007 Thanks, Budget Queen. What is the best choice out of Ketchikan in your opinion that doesn't involve airplanes, helicopters, or fishing that is related to seeing Alaska and not Ketchikan? Nancyquilts Posted August 23, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2007 Ketchikan also has a giant building on the pier with tours that are available that day. BQ probably has better ideas. Nancy
