Has anyone stayed at this resort near the Vancouver airport. Just wondering about your choices for transportation to the Ballentyne pier the next morning. Thanks.

There are quite a few reviews on tripadvisor.com for the RiverRock.

 

The only way to get to Ballantyne Pier would be by taxi. Depending on traffic it would be approx 30 minutes.

River Rock Casino is a newer complex - have never even stopped in to have a look however my son's "Stag" was there and they all had a great time although I do not believe sleeping was on the agenda.

 

The location although right on the Fraser River is definitely cut off from everything - not walking distance to any other restaurants or shops etc. As well as not an area I would walk in.

 

They have had their trouble at the casino with gang related problems and a few shootings in the parking lot.

Really? I've never heard of this.

 

We and other friends have been at the River Rock for the buffet several times and never noticed any problems. I also have a work acquaintance who goes regularly for the slots and has never witnessed any problems either.

We were there last night. It's really nice. They have some pretty big-time performers there. We saw INXS. Check out the web site to see who's in town the night you are there.

Thanks everyone, we have decided to stay, and have the vancoouver shutttle to the pier. I am sure we will enjoy it, we are only there one night.

The rooms there are are wonderful. We stayed there shortly after they opened. We had a separate bedroom and a living room. The beds have lots of pillows and fluffy duvets with crisp lines. We found the bathroom on the small side compared to the rest of the room.

 

We have visited the casino quite a few times, the latest was in May and never heard anything about gang problems or shootings. We usually go with a friend that lives in Vancouver and take the city bus out and have to walk about 4-5 blocks from the nearest bus stop and never felt it was unsafe - perhaps because we were with a local.

 

A taxi from the airport to the hotel is about$10-12, and it cost about $25-30CAD to downtown.

 

They have a restaurant in the hotel part. We went for dinner but the service was so slow we left and went to the casino for a hot dog.

I live in Vancouver and I have never heard of a shooting at the casino. It is a beautiful complex. It is in a quieter neighbourhood but there is so much security around that casino I would never worry. I would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks again everyone for the reassurance, we are quite comfortable with staying there, bad things can happen anywhere, you just have to be aware of your surroundings. Even the shutlle guy I talked to said it is a beautiful hotel, and my husband loves texas holdem, so I am sure it will be good.
