New Orleans- post cruise-car rental & hotel suggestions?? Feb 2008

I am sailing on the Carnival fantasy in Feb 2008. I booked the Iberville Suites for one night- pre cruise. I am flying in from New York the day before my cruise. My flight is the day AFTER my cruise returns so I need a one nighter for post cruise, but its Saturday, December 30, so the hotels are VERY expensive I found a 3 star at the New Orleans airport for $ 39 per night. Everything else is more in the high $ 100's range. Now here is the question: Are there any car rental companies near the Port of New Orleans??? I would like to pick up a car at the port and return it to the airport the next day. I am also looking for some suggestions for what to do for the day after, we will already have spent a night in the French Quarter before the cruise, so I thought maybe a swamp tour. I am 41 and my DH is 44, we have two teens, aged 18 and 16 and are pretty active. Please post some car rental suggestions as well as any hotel ideas. Thanks

For hotels if you have a car then someplace in Metairie, or Kenner (where the airport is) would be fine. There used to be a Hertz rental place on Convention Center Blvd., which is very close to the cruise terminal. I had heard it had reopened, but haven't been there myself.

Things to do: Although it's not prime time for swamp tours I would recommend it if you haven't done it before. Or you could do a plantation tour or Katrina tour. You could spend a day visiting some of the museums or Mardi Gras World.
