texasmary Posted August 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2007 I'm going to be shooting some Fujichrome 200 slide film in Alaska. Do I need to be afraid of airport xray machines? Thanks.
odblnt Posted August 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2007 Not the carry-on machines, but don't send it with the checked luggage. Different machine, different dose of x-rays.
Rare pierces Posted August 28, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2007 Slide film is marginally more sensitive to x-rays than print film, but neither should show harm from 3-4 passes through carry-on security scanners. The only caveat to that is that some of the newer scanners make a pass at normal levels, but if there is something that draws their attention, they can momentarily boost the beam for greater penetration. If that happens to hit your film...bad news. Here is the TSA's official statement: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1035.shtm This is from Kodak's site: http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/tib/tib5201.shtml Hope this helped!
