Cape Liberty...suggestions for hotels near by?

Next year we will be driving to New Jersey to sail the Explorer from Cape Liberty. We have sailed from Cape Liberty last summer. However, we stayed at the Quality Inn in Lyndhurst NJ. We had never been to that area before and did everything over the phone. The Harold's Deli was wonderful but big problems with the hotel. So now we need to find a hotel. Any suggestons where to stay for two nights prior to the cruise? How far is the New Jersey Gardens mall from the port? Would it be better to stay around there? We went into NYC last year...so we won;t need to do that this time.

There are several clean reasonably priced hotel chains in Elizabeth, near Newark AP by the Jersey Gardens shopping mall. Do not book anything located on Routes 1&9. They are not fancy but they will get the job done.
