Granville Island

We will be arriving into Vancouver around noon and will either check into our hotel or leave our luggage there. We are staying at the Marriott. What would be the best way to get to Granville Island? Should we (4 of us) go by taxi or is there easy public transportation to get there and back?

Thanks.

hi, this is the pdf link from www.translink.bc.ca website - it will give you the downtown bus network and buses for Granville Island

http://www.translink.bc.ca/files/maps/sys_maps/sys_Vancouver.pdf

realistically for 4 of you, a taxi will either be cheaper or very little more than the cost of 4 x single transit tickets and WAY more convenient.

Granville Island is lots of fun and very entertaining, especially when the weather cooperates

There are two Marriott's in the downtown core - the Pinnacle near Canada Place and the Renissance on Hornby - the latter is more uptown from Canada Place but only a couple of blocks from where you can catch the small ferries that cross False Creek to Granville Island - this is the fun way - in fact the best way to get to Granville Island - taking the regular bus is a drag - takes too long and you still have a little bit of walking to do - the ferry docks right at the market.

Hope this helps

Cheers

We are staying at the Pinnacle Marriott. By looking at their addresses, I was under the assumption that they are across the street from each other. Am I wrong? We stayed at the Renissance when we were there 5 years ago. I would love to take the little ferry boats. How far are they from the Marriott Pinnacle?

Thanks for your great information.

My mistake - i was thinking of the Marriott Residence Inn which is on Hornby - a block from where i live.

It is possible to walk to the small ferries - it is about a mile with a little uphill at the start - this link should help you a little bit.

Just zoom it out a bit and you should see Granville island and your hotel.

Hope this helps

There are two competing services with different docks near each other - there is Aqua Bus or Granville Island ferries.

Aqua Bus has a pier at the end of Hornby St - near where I live and it will take you straight across to a dock by the market

Granville Island or False Creek ferries as it is also known docks at the foot of Thurlow Street - which would be closer to your hotel and take you across to Bridges restaurant - which is a stone throw away from the market - the fare is $2.50 per person each way.

Here's a link to one of the ferries website:

Can't find one for the other service.

I love your city. Never have been to one as livable as Vancouver, B.C. I was there for a week's stay prior to our Alaska cruise in 2003. We very much plan to return sometime as we couldn't fit everything in to one week. Granville Island was a blast. We bought one of the doubledecker bus tours that took us all over town for 2 or 3 days. We accessed Granville Island that way, and Stanley Park, Chinatown, Gastown, bunches of museums, Canada Place and all kinds of other places. It was great for us as we could get on and off when we wanted. We also figured the bus system out to get us to Horseshoe Ferry terminal (I think that was the name) and we took the ferry to Bowen Island. There wasn't much going on at Bowen but the ferry ride over was fantastic.

I agree with Dennis -- the ferries are a much better way to go to Granville Island than bus or taxi ...

The other ferry to the island (which is only a couple of blocks from the Granville Island Ferry location which has already been posted) picks up at the foot of Hornby Street. It's website is located at:

Enjoy your cruise!
