zebra Posted May 24, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Hi Melissa, We're in Tampa Palms. We've just got back from Alaska 2 weeks ago and went on a guided fishing & Wilderness Dining experience. It was the most awesome fishing trip we've ever had. We caught stacks of fish - nothing under about 4-5 lbs. It was great fun and then they prepared our fish for us on a private island which was gorgeous. I would highly recommend this excursion. Our guide, Larry was superb! He first takes you to his outfitters and fits you with all the boots, jackets, pants, gloves that are needed - this is all included in the excursion price. The last time we went to Ketchikan we went sport fishing and didn't catch anything, it was September and was the end of the salmon season. cruisingrandy Posted May 26, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 26, 2004 Hi, We have been to Alaska twice on cruises. We highly reccomend Ken of Northern Lights for fishing in Ketchican. Last July we went with Ken and caught 9 Kings from 20 to 35Lb. each. He is a class act. You can reach Ken at fishingketchikan@kpunet.net . Folladori4 Posted May 30, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 30, 2004 Just got back from a B2B and would agree the Wilderness Fishing was the way to go. My husband caught lots of fish and they then prepared them for a great shore lunch around an open fire. It was the highlite of his trip! On the return trip he went on a charter and was disapointed, everyone took turns and only one King was caught. He never even touched a rod. The Wilderness experience was a bit more money but well worth it.
Melissa_A Posted May 30, 2004 Author #12 Share Posted May 30, 2004 Folladori4, took turns!? that sounds like a horrible experience. i'll have to check with the people i booked thru to make sure it's not that type of charter! zebra Posted May 31, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Melissa, You won't go wring if you do the wilderness Fishing Experience ...trust me...the sportfishing trips don't come anywhere close. We can also say it was the BEST excursion we have ever done on all 11 cruises we've taken. Treat yourself - you won't be disappointed. phubli Posted May 31, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 31, 2004 We are going salmon fishing with Ken in Ketchikian as well. July 7th. Thanks for the exciting tale of 9 kings...I hope we will do just as well. I can't wait.
Folladori4 Posted May 31, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 31, 2004 The sportfishing uses downriggers so you take turns pulling in fish, my husband never had a turn. So if there are not enough bites you may never get a turn. The Wilderness Experience you have your own pole for bottom fishing, Red Snapper, Wolf, Lin Cod, Halibut among other types were caught when my husband went. He had a ball well worth the price not to mention a shore lunch over an open fire.
tennlady Posted June 1, 2004 #16 Share Posted June 1, 2004 I need some clarification.........On the fishing trip with Ken from Northern Lights, does everyone get their own pole? And does he supply gear and clothing? About how many people are on his boat? Any other information would be helpful. Thanks.
Melissa_A Posted June 1, 2004 Author #17 Share Posted June 1, 2004 yes, back onto the clothing thing. What's the best thing to wear while fishing in Ketchikan? I'm guessing jeans wouldn't be a good idea with all the rain.
