Breakfast in the Dining Room?

In 7 cruises, I've never had breakfast in the dining room - am I missing out on something? I normally have an omelet and half a grapefruit on the Lido Deck, then sit alone and eat near a window (or outside).

If I eat in the dining room can I request to sit alone, or will I have to be seated with other people? Breakfast is the only time of the day I'm alone, and I enjoy that "quiet time."

I guess I should check out webshots for breakfast menus. I might give it a try once or twice on our upcoming cruise.

I get made to order over medium on the lido and do the same in the dining room, so for me the food is the same....just a bit more relaxing atmosphere (yes, even on the Miracle LOL). We've always had the right number of people for a table so we have always been seated on our own. I'd go and ask....because I don't want the pleasure of eating with strangers.

Only had 2 breakfasts away from the Dining Room. Both times we had slept in and had to rush to the Lido to grab a bite.

When you go to Open Dining Breakfast or Lunch you could try asking for a table by yourself. They do try to just fill the tables up as it reduces the number of staff they need. On our cruise we had breakfast or lunch at every sized table in the room, even a 2 person on one occasion. At one breakfast there was somebody on our table who obviously wanted to eat by himself. It was very clear he did not want our company and after he left it was very clear that all the others on the table didn't want his either. Not sure if he had asked to be seated by himself or not and could not ask either.

On the day we were cruising down the Dardanelles we asked specifically to sit on the starboard side of the dining room so we could look at the penninsula ( Aussies are like that about that area of the world). No problems they said and just escorted us to that side.

On the first morning just ask, if they say no then it looks like its the Lido for you.

Since you are on vacation and would like to sleep in, You are not missing much with eating Breakfast in the Dining room. You can get everything in the Lido and sleep later. If You do go to the dining Room, You can request a Table for 2. The few times, We ate in the Dining Room, there was no problem at Breakfast getting a Table for 2.

Rowan, since I don't like to chitchat early in the mornings, I always ask for a table just for myself. I have b'fast (actually all three meals) in the dining room every day. I don't mind sharing a table for lunch, but I also want my own table - by a window - for breakfast.

I've always been accommodated, with a smile. Just ask.:)

I love breakfast in the DR. I hate waiting on lines. We've always been placed with interesting table companions. We found new friends to associate with during the cruise. Of course I had always had my cup of collee first from the Lido. I don't know if I could hold a decent conversation otherwise. The first morning always seems a little more hectic in the DR but everything calms down after that.

seems to me there was an egg "dish of the day" I remember a lemony egg dish that sounded weird and tasted really good.

One morning, I asked to sit with others and was the last person at a long 10-top. I was across from a couple who did not speak English and the rest of the table complained bitterly about how terrible the cruise was. And since they were ignoring me, I asked the host to re-seat me. They did and the next table, a round 8-top, was full of jolly, happy people.

Of course, you can always do both. Get up early for a nibble in the Lido and go late for a bite in the dining room. This follows the coffee and nosh in your cabin from room service.

2 more work days!

I like to do a mix of both. If it's a sea day, or we're pulling into port later in the morning, I'll eat in the dining room. I admit, it's nice to be waited on first thing in the morning. But if I need to get to an excursion by a certain time, I will go up to Lido and grab something quick.

Thanks! Looks like I can get my omelet and grapefruit in the dining room as well. Of course if I have to sit with a bunch of people, I'll stick with the Lido deck...

It's really hard to sit alone in the DR. My BF & I ask & very rarely do we get a table on our own.

On some of the ships they have an "Egg Special" every day in the dining room. Some I've had were wonderful...others just so-so. I love to go to the dining room. I'd much rather relax and watch as we're pulling into port than to go stand in line and get some cold breakfast food or runny eggs!

dress is very causal, what I hate is buffet period. That said we ate breakfast in the dinning room 3 of 7 days, room service the others.... yes we've done the breakfast buffet before (I'm too cranky that early to be out in public:D)

You're seated in the order you come in, with strangers (aok but if you're waiting for a late sleeper you won't sit with them). They fill the tables and then turn them over (only sailed RCL and CCL).

I am NOT a big eater but the serving sizes are very small and I was hungry in two hours, so plan ahead and order some serious food.

The service is excellent as always, but of course you wait and breakfast takes 30-45 minutes, ok for sea days, not if your in a hurry for excursions.

It's a great option, I love it, but you have plan the time involved, get your group together and plan on small portions....

If you do this you will really enjoy it... relaxing at breakfast, being spoiled and served while you wake up is WONDERFUL.
