Boo's Mom Posted May 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Hi Folks. I am hoping someone can help me out with this logistics question: I will be arriving in Seward (via the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage) @ 11:05am. I would like to board the Summit immediately and then disembark the ship to make a 3:30 excursion @ The Seavey's Iditarod. My questions: 1. How far from the railroad is the cruise terminal. Do we take a cab to the terminal? 2. Will we be able to board that early? 3. Has anyone experienced the Seavey's picking them up for the free shuttle? Did it pick you up right @ the terminal? 4. With a 1.5 hr tour, will we make it back to the ship to change clothes for the 6:15 dinner seating? Thank you!! Boo's Mom Even the winds and the waves obey him! bunnybear Posted May 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2004 We have booked the Seavey's all day trip. They are picking us up directly from the train station and after our tour they will drop us off at the ship terminal. I was told that you will need a cab from the train to the ship. I would ask the Seavey's if they can make arrangements to pick you up at the ship - if not you will need transportation to their meeting place. Sea Turtle Posted May 24, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2004 I met up with the Seavey's at the train station for an all-day adventure. I just walked over from the ship to the station. No answer for you on the embarkation time. I was on a back2back last year so didn't go through that process. It is about a 20-minute ride out to the Seavey's kennels so you may have time for a quick change for dinner. Enjoy your cruise, and the Seavey's--great family! <img src=http://members.hometown.aol.com/bay2baygal/myhomepage/seaturtle.gif?mtbrand=AOL_US>
Budget Queen Posted May 25, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2004 From the regular run of the Alaska RR which goes to the depot- yes you need a cab- $5++. Contact Seavey's directly and inquire of transfers. Usually the first night is OPEN seating at dinner- so no need to worry about one meal.
GlacierLady Posted June 17, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2004 BEWARE....I hope you read this in time or help someone out with this info.....The Real Alaska tour is a rip off. They are charging double with what you can do on your own...plus the train is making commission off you.Spelled out...$119 per person for The Real Alaska Tour = Iditaride, lunch at Resurrection Roadhouse and tour of town.Breakdown..Cost of dogsled ride is $40.Lunch can be bought anywhere in town for $10 or less. Take a taxi to Exit Glacier, driver will give personalized tour/service,you decide how long to be at the glacier(FREE ranger lead nature walk 11am&3pm) for $40 rountrip. 4 people =$10 each... total per person based on 4 people including lunch...$60 each..hmmm $60 vs $119???....it does pay to do your math!!
