Chichen Itza from Costa Maya

We are first time travellers to Costa Maya in spring 08 with NCL Spirit. What we want to do is a daytrip to Chichen Itza, the famous ruins right in the middle of Yucatan.

Does anybody know if this is posible and when- which tours are offered.

Thank you for the help in advance.

I doubt that you would have enough time to be able to get to there and back--there are some wonderful lesser known ruins nearer the port and a couple of men --David and Ivan who conduct tours to them from Costa Maya-if you do a search you'll find lots of info on them

however they are in a state of flux after the hurricane so be patient if you e-mail them----they might not have internet access but every few days as they try to rebuild their personal as well as professional lives

We too are traveling to Costa Maya with NCL in spring 2008, March 2, 2008 on Spirit. I don't think you'll have time to travel to Chichen Itza on that trip, it would require about 5 hrs drive time each way, it is best to go there through Progresso of Cancun. Tulum is probably the most visited ruins because of it's location, and second to Chitchen Itza, and would be only a couple hours north of Costa Maya. Tulum is usually visited from Cozumel or Playa Del Carmen/Calica, but I'm sure would be available on your trip, if not through the cruise line then through a private tour. If your cruise goes to Belize then you could check out Altun Ha Ruins, we took a tour on those ruins through NCL a couple years ago. Go to NCL.com and select shore excursions, to see what they offer for you vacation. Have fun.

Depending on how the repairs/reconstruction in Costa Maya progress, your cruise in spring/March 08 may not be able to call at Costa Maya. If your ship calls on Progreso/Merida as a substitute for CM, Chichen Itza is about 2½ hour ride away from Progreso.
