Friends, Family, giving me trouble about cruising solo

I've just booked my 5th solo cruise with my 10y/o dd. I know it's not completely solo but most of the time I have to make adult time fun by myself. I have found honestly that cruising is by far the best way to travel solo. No car rental, driving around strange citys, and you can have a drink or two and still feel safe.( I know never completely, but much more so than on land) And there are lots of activities to join or watch, without too much trouble. My dd is involved in all the kids activities so I see the shows, play the casino, and even sing at the paino bar! We do our family vacations but I love this time with (and "solo" time from) my dd. I have some "solo" friends at work and have told them repeatedly to give it a try but its hard to go the first time. So CODOS to you all and lets sail away again:)

You are a big girl, so tell the family that you can take care of yourself!

Unfortunately, I can't travel as often as my wife (got to pay for those trips, you know) so she travels on her own. She has been on 5 Celebrity cruises and also goes to Alaska on her own, for weeks at a time. She is a nature photographer. She makes all of her own air, car and hotel bookings. On cruises she sets up independent tours. She drives the roads in Alaska, Yellowstone and other natiional parks on her own.

I just put a suite on hold for her on a December cruise.

In addition to just going, her opinion is never to take crap from anyone who thinks they can seat you in a corner, ignore you, talk down to you, or anything else like that, because you are a women alone. If your hotel room has a leaky toilet, tell them to fix it, or the night is on them If the car smells of smoke, tell 'em to get you a better one. Send you meals back if they are not done to your liking.

Don't be afraid of going to a specialty restaurant on board and dining alone. If you meet others you like, such as people at your main restaurant table, ask if they are going to the specialty restaurant and if you could join them. What the hell, all they can say is no.

A number of my wife's friends can't believe that she travels the world by herself. They are afraid to go anywhere unless they are in a group and on a tour. This summer in Alaska the wife paid half of what a group was paying for the same accomodations, at the same time.

Remember, staying home is NOT an option!!!!!
