Noordam VE or VD?

Travelingsisters

Recommended Posts

This is my first cruise with HAL. I booked stateroom 5198 (VE) and after reading all your posts regarding the balcony size, should I change to a VD category stateroom. Will it make that much of a difference? We do use the balcony quite a bit.

Just second guessing myself now. So any help is appreciated.

We had a VE on Westerdam in the Caribbean this spring. The balcony is about 4-1/2 feet deep and as wide as the cabin -- perhaps 9 feet. It is not expansive, but we found that it was adequate, and we spent a lot of time on it, and enjoyed it very much. VD balconies are deeper -- I would guess 6 feet by 9.

If you can change (if a VD is available, for instance) and are worried about it, do make the change, but if you can't I wouldn't think it would be all that bad. In a VE, your deck is just above the top of the tenders, so you lose some view directly down, but we did not find that particularly distracting, as we could see the flying fish, dolphins, etc. just fine. If you don't react well to the ship's movement, the advantage to a VE is that it is pretty much in the center of the ship and somewhat lower, so you would experience less movement.

Bad guess Dave: the side VA/VB/VC are about 6 ft deep, but the VD are about 7.5 ft deep. :D

So, travelingsisters, the VD verandah would be 3 ft deeper, or 27 sq ft, or 67% larger than the VE verandah.

John,

Wow, I did not know that! You are right, I was assuming that the VD was the same as the VA/VB/VC. That is a big difference.

Barbara,

Have a very enjoyable cruise! We, like you, enjoy our balcony, and it looks like you've gone for the larger VD class. Congratulations! (I'm going to have to look into those myself....):D
