So...it has been four days now...

what did you learn???

Y'know, I've been so &^%$%^ busy I didn't notice what day it was :o - I'll call today!

Oh..have they rebuilt the Westside public pier that was across from the park in Guflport?

Yep - I forgot that many of the piers have been rebuilt including that one. In fact last month there was a presentation to our west side group about rebuilding the Senior Center that used to be there. The Westside pier reopened (without the restroom facility) a few months back.

When I was a kid, we stayed at Moodys for two weeks every summer

Ah, Moody's Fountain Court - loved it when I was a kid - thought the food was great. Now I know it was some of the worst dreck to ever fill a steam table. But back then, that was MS Gulf Coast cooking.

Used to be friends with Ruth Moody - about the same age - haven't seen her since Katrina.

and fished from that pier every year.

When I was about 10 or 11 I jumped off that pier right into a jellyfish -   Yowwwww!

We stayed at Moodys back in the 60's when it was just Moody's Courts. We always stayed in the Mississippi Cabin, which was in the back becuase it was the biggest with three bedrooms.

We would fish off the Westside pier, when it was a whole lot longer then it was pre-Katrina. That pier must have been half a mile long back then and fish for snapper and mullet, but normally caught salftwater cats.

Sometimes we would go and fish off the concrete wall to the Shrimp boat harbor (the one directly behind the Grand Casino now.)

A special treat every year was to go to the Confederate Inn and eat. Of course a trip to Biloxi to see the Lighthouse, across the bay to Ocean Springs (in those days across the old bridge) and drive along the OS beach. They, we revrsed course and took the long trip back to cross the bridge to Bay St. Louis. Again, we never did anything in BSL, but it made us feel we had see the entire coast.

BTW...I was the Pastor at Burton Memorial United Methodist on Pass Road four 3 1/2 years back in the 90's. I arrived in June and the Isle of Capri (I still laugh at how the dummies did not know the name should have been Isle of Caprice) opened shortly after I arrived. It was an amazing time to be on the Coast with all the growth down there.

As you will catch on..I love Gulfport. I take side trips to Biloxi, Pass, etc. When I go to the Coast, I go to Gulfport first.

BTW...I cant remember the name of the Mayor when I lived there. He was a nice guy and retired after I moved away.

I would love to see Gulfport get a Cruise ship. Lets hope it happens.
