Garment bag as carry on question

Carnival states carry on must be no larger than

24" wide X 16" high with no limit on length. I have a garment bag I want to carry on. It folds in half and hooks together and has a handle to carry as a bag with a measurement of 22" wide. ..but it is over 16" high this way.

If I unhook it to lay flat for scanning it is 22" wide x 3" high with a length of 46" which is within the specs for carry on luggage.

Has anyone done this with a folding garment bag? Will I be allowed to then fold it in half and carry it on the boat after it's scanned? I really don't want to check this as baggage. Its a 4 day cruise and I think I can get by with this garment bag and the matching duffel.

If anyone knows I'd appreciate your input.

Thanks

if it fits through the scanners on a airport security line it will fit through the security check in at the cruise ports.

I have seen lots of people with the garment bags carrying them on.

But please note-- if you get on the ship early-- around noon you will be stuck carrying around the garment bag until 1:30
