cruisebore Posted September 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Liverpool, the birth place of the Beatles (and me), being amongst its many claims to fame, has opened its cruise terminal this morning. The waterfront must be amongst the most spectacular in the world. To cap it all off for the cruise visitor is a vibrant, exciting and compact city just off their berth which is littered with spectacular and listed buildings. If you get the opportunity please visit us you will not be dissapointed. http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/...4375-19752553/ Regards Cruisebore
Mim Lloyd Posted September 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Yup, now that we're house trained and have learned to eat with knives and forks us natives are very civilised!! We can even count to 10 without using our fingers don't you know! :D But seriously, there's lots to see in Liverpool and it's also a perfect gateway for venturing out to sightsee North Wales, the Lake District, the Peak district and over to Yorkshire - all of which can be done in a day trip from a cruise ship berthed in Liverpool. One at a time - not all at once!
tobes Posted September 9, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Hi, maybe you could give me some suggestions. The places you mention are perfect for my next summer's vacation. My son and I are attending the British Open and I am building our trip around that. We are flying into Stansted (best prices) and driving (stopping at Bath, Stonehenge, Cardiff) then Liverpool. If we do the daytrips you mention, then what route should we take back to Stansted? Any suggestions appreciated. Judy:) But seriously, there's lots to see in Liverpool and it's also a perfect gateway for venturing out to sightsee North Wales, the Lake District, the Peak district and over to Yorkshire - all of which can be done in a day trip from a cruise ship berthed in Liverpool. Mim Lloyd Posted September 10, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2007 Hi Judy If I were you, I'd drive up from Cardiff through Wales towards Liverpool. There's lots of lovely places to visit on the way - Caernarvon castle, Betwys Coed are just two, and you could stay one or two nights in a B&B. Visit this link: http://www.travelwales.org/ It's by the Welsh Tourist Board and aimed at US visitors. Once in Liverpool, you could go north for the day to the Lake District - Windermere is nice for a visit. It's about an hour and a half drive from Liverpool. Have a look at this site for ideas on what to see and do: http://www.golakes.co.uk/ Another nice trip out of Liverpool is to the Yorkshire, again about an hour and a half away. This is a nice site to check out: http://www.yorkshirenet.co.uk/ydales/index.htm The Yorkshire Dales is also a nice place to stay over for a night. Not sure of the best route back to Stansted as it's a place I'm not familiar with, but wherever you are in Britain you're never far away from a motorway and they are easy to navigate. You can plan your route by visiting either of these sites and printing off the instructions: http://www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp http://www.rac.co.uk/web/routeplanner/ Hope this info helps! cruisebore Posted September 10, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted September 10, 2007 Officials declared themselves satisfied with all aspects of the inaugural call. Seven Seas Voyager Captain Dag Dvergstein said: ‘Few cities in the world have arrival points in the heart of the city, You think of Sydney, Manhattan, Venice and now Liverpool. This is going to make a big difference for Liverpool and the cruise industry.’ Liverpool cruise manager Angie Redhead said: ‘Everyone pulled out all the stops to get it right and it has worked really well.’ QE2 returns to Liverpool on September 21 to mark the official opening of the new berth located in front of Cunard’s former headquarters at Liverpool Pier Head, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
