Julia’s Journey’s Posted September 10, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2007 I haven't read anything about the Sun recently - anyone recently off the ship with some comments - good, bad or indifferent. We will be boarding in 2 weeks:D Any update on the brewed coffee with the coffee card situation??
southwestgal Posted September 10, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2007 Just got off the Sun Princess yesterday. She's looking a bit tired, but the crew was great. Apparently, she's scheduled for a month long drydock once she's back in P&O's service. Don't have any information about the coffee card - but we know others who purchased the brewed coffee in the Patisserie and enjoyed it. The "regular" coffee system in the buffet area was having a lot of problems and wasn't working quite often. The servers had coffee available in carafes a lot of the time. We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise (7 day rt out of Seattle). The cruise director, Dan Styne, was great! The guest entertainers were very good, the production shows were so so, and they had a string quartet aboard that was fabulous. Also, the Sun Princess Orchestra was fantastic! Really a great group of musicians. Food in the dining room was up to the usual Princess quality. The menus were not a surprise. We had traditional dining, and the nights that we were in Juneau and Victoria were open seating - even in the traditional dining room. We didn't care for that. The last night (Victoria) was open seating and we couldn't get into our usual section AND our waitor was off that night. We didn't get to say goodbye. A bit disappointing, but the head waitor and jr. waitor came by to say goodbye. We didn't expect open seating for 2 of the 7 nights. Food in the buffet area was so so. I really enjoyed their cold salads (seafood, crab, etc.). And, they had an Italian buffet lunch that was great. Otherwise, the selection of the hot entrees were a bit disappointing. I didn't think that the size of the buffet was sufficient for the passengers. Verdi Pizzeria was great (no surcharge). We ate there the first day instead of fighting the hordes at the buffet. It was very civilized with individually made to order pizza and waitor service. Outstanding! The veggie pizza was great. Also, the hamburger grill was good. We had a terrific time. If you have any other questions just let me know. Happy cruising!
