Melissa_A Posted May 26, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2004 Has anyone used or have any input about Ketchikan Charter Boats for fishing in Ketchikan? ngraystark Posted May 26, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2004 We booked a fishing excursion off the boat the last time we were in Ketchikan. This time we booked our own charter through Experience One Charters. They have been very accomodating and helpful as we have made our arrangements. The actual fishing - time will tell (Infinity, July 11, 2004!!!)
Folladori4 Posted May 30, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2004 Just returned from a b2b and my husband went out on the the fishing excursion, he was disappointed. Their were four on the boat and they took turns with the rods. Only caught one fish so he never got a chance to take a turn. However he also went on the Wilderness Fishing Excursion with Princess and had a great time. Everyone has their own pole and he caught lots of fish. They then prepared them and enjoyed their caught in a shore lunch over an open camp fire. This was the highlite of his trip.
mpk Posted May 31, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2004 So on the first trip, there was only one rod?
sarahjane Posted May 31, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2004 folladori4, which cruise line were you on when you did the fishing in Ketchikan? Do you remember what company they used? Was it Allen Marine or something like that? We are supposed to fish in Ketchikan through the Royal Caribbean excursion, and I believe they use Allen Marine like most of the other cruiselines. If what you are saying is the way they handle all their fishing excursions, I think we should cancel ours. We do not want to take turns with one rod. Any suggestions on a better choice? ngraystark, how did you hear about Experience One, and what have you heard about them? Perhaps we should try them as well? Info appreciated! thanks sarahjane Serenade to Alaska 7/25/04!!! Folladori4 Posted May 31, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 31, 2004 We were on the Coral Princess, all the Sportfishing expeditions use down riggers for Salmon and as a fish bites you take turns pulling them in, so if there are fewer fish than fishermen you don't get a turn. The Wilderness fishing is bottom fishing so everyone has there own pole, my husband caught Red Snapper, Wolve, Lin Cod, Halibut and other types of fish on this excursion which were prepared at a shore lunch. It was a bit more pricey but my husband the fisherman said it was worth every penny and was the best time he ever had fishing. Pull both up on the net and you will see the difference in the boats and type of fishing.
47Straight Posted June 1, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 1, 2004 Folladori4: Were these tour R and S shore excursions booked through Princess?
zebra Posted June 1, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 1, 2004 Yes we're just off the Diamond Princess and had the same awesome experience as Folladori4. The excursion is called Guided Fishing and Wilderness Dining - and trust me it is hands down better that the Sportfishing which we have also done in Ketchikan before - no comparison! 47Straight Posted June 1, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 1, 2004 This web site may shed some light on only catching one King for the boat. http://www.sf.adfg.state.ak.us/Region1/weekly/ktn.cfm If you put Ketchikan Charter Fishing into Yahoo search engine, you get a lot of options in Ketchikan. I may call some of them to get a feel for the best option. My day to fish there will be July 27. If anyone out there wants to share the day, we could get a boat to ourselves. Melissa_A Posted June 2, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted June 2, 2004 Thanks for everyone's input! To clarify, the name of the charter company is "Ketchikan Charter Boats". Everyone on the boat does get their own fishing pole. I booked thru Orca Enterprises, and they use them, so i'm hoping for a good experience.
