cruisead Posted September 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2007 While helping my sister clean out her craft room, we came across a Carnival Capers from April 1979. The cruise was our very first, on Festivale, and the total cost for 2, including airfare, was $599. We had a tiny cabin with an upper and lower berth. Here's some highlights from the Capers: Printed on one legal size sheet, it listed ALL the activities for the day and night. The captain was Carlo Chiarella, the cruise director was Bob LeBlanc. Trapshooting was on the aft deck at 2pm. They haven't allowed trap shooting since 1991. The Drinks of the Day specials were Bloody Mary's and Screwdrivers for....get this..... $.80. Yes, that's eighty cents. Beer of the day was $.50. The movie was Hooper, with Burt Reynolds and Sally Field (they were a hot item back then) Late night buffet began at 12:30. They also had a late Mini Buffet at 1:30am The Midnight Special was The X-Rated comedy of Paul Franki. Boy, did this bring back memories I've been on 49 cruises after this very first one. I like how the x rated is now r rated for the comedy show. I wish the drinks were that cheap now. :D
StephenNSamantha Posted September 14, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2007 By any chance do you have a way of scanning the Capers in and posting them?
LetsSailAway Posted September 14, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2007 I've got you beat! I asked my mother to look through her "stuff" and see if she could find any pictures from our family's 1975 cruise on the Mardi Gras (so I could get past guest credit for that cruise!). No pictures, but she found the Capers!!!

toledo Posted October 18, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 18, 2007 I just found my pictures from our 1987 Festivale cruise. I'll see if my kids know how to scan them and post them. We had the worst room. It was an inside on the lowest deck and it had two bunks. It was soooo small. Most of the passengers were much older. We didn't enjoy it much. We tried cruising again 2 years ago and enjoyed it much more. It's probably because the ships have changed and so have we. Now we're in that "older" crowd.:p
