DesertDogs Posted September 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2007 We are sailing on the Circle Hawaii Cruise next year and the itineray shows our stop in Nawiliwili, Kauai, Hawaii is pending port availability. What does this mean? Tide conditions? Other ships in port? We are really looking forward to visiting Kauai and hope this port is available. Any insight from previous cruisers is appreciated. kakalina Posted September 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2007 As you can see we have taken this cruise numerous times and they stopped going to Kaui quite some time ago on the RT cruise. Perhaps they are going to start again? It is a truly gorgeous island. The Fern Grotto is a must see. Hope you get to stop there. Have a wonderful cruise. the2ofus Posted September 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2007 When we were there on our 2003 cruise there was only docking space for two ships. Don't know if there have been changes since then.
sweet sheep Posted September 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2007 I will be going there April 2008 and they are definitely stopping in Kawaii. They were not certain in the beginning but we now know they stopping there. We have already booked our shore excursion there. It can of course be changed according to the time of year so best of luck on that,
DesertDogs Posted September 15, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted September 15, 2007 When we were there on our 2003 cruise there was only docking space for two ships. Don't know if there have been changes since then. So, hopefully, we will get one of the spaces that day. Sweet Sheep - Please post when you return about your trip. Kakalina - Yes, Kauai is now on some of the schedules. There is also a different cruise that stays overnight in Honolulu instead of the Kauai stop. We prefer the stop in Kauai since we have already been to Honolulu.
leoandhugh Posted September 15, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2007 It is because NCL's Hawaii ships had a special deal with the state of Hawaii that gave them preferential docking privileges there. Now that the Hawaii fleet has been cut back from 3 to 2 ships, the berth availability has opened up for some dates. And some of the other cruise lines like HAL have reschedule Hawaii ports to take advantage of the open slots at Kauai.
