Scuba Dive in New Zealand?

We will be travelling on the Statendam in October. Does anyone know anything about Scuba diving In NZ? Operators? Tours, etc? What would be the best port to consider diving? Would it simply be too cold? We are qualified divers in Canada. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

If you are stopping off in Wellington I can highly recommend the F69 Frigate dive.
