Carnival - Smoking allowed in cabins?

i was told all the cabins on the Carnival Liberty are smoking and I don't need to request a smoking room...is this true? I'm on the Lido deck which I'm quite psyched about but I didn't specify smoking...I'd hate to lose my spot on the Lido deck just to get a smoking room.

Carnival does not have smoking or nonsmoking rooms. Guests can smoke in any room. I'm a nonsmoker, but I haven't had a problem with the smoke smell in any room.

R U sure...my friend said he just got off of a Carnival ship this summer and there is NO SMOKING allowed in any of the cabins!!! He said that they're pretty serious about it too...I guess they'll fine you or something!

I think I'll call Carnival directly and find out. Thanks for your response

I just spoke to a Carnival rep. and she informed me that smoking is allowed in ALL of the staterooms. Just ask the cabin steward for an ashtray. You were right tnrnchick74! I don't know who told my friend this when he was on his cruise but he got bad info. Thanks for the info.

I'm very sure. They have some "non smoking" spots around the ship, but you can smoke in any room or on any balcony. My experience has been that they aren't well enforced. I guess it depends on the crew & the ship.

From Carnival's website: (b) Guest acknowledges that Carnival’s vessels contain non-smoking sections. Guest agrees to refrain from smoking in those sections and agrees that Carnival has the right to disembark the Guest for failure to observe Carnival’s non-smoking policy.

But please call Carnival to get the verification you need. I'm sure they will tell you the same thing. Have a great trip!

NP. Its better to talk to them directly and get the most up to date info. I wish that Carnival was non-smoking, but I haven't had a problem onboard with the smoking smell.

Does anyone know about Royal Caribbean?

My husband smokes and I just assumed that he would have to go to a designated spot.

Anyones help would be greatly appreicated.

Royal Caribbean has just instituted a no-smoking in the cabins policy for its ships. Begins this fall/winter.

"Currently, smoking is prohibited in guest hallways and corridors, restaurants, entertainment venues and most of the ship's interior public spaces except for designated areas in bars and lounges. The new policy will add all guest staterooms and suites, and one bar or lounge on every Royal Caribbean ship onto the roster of smoke-free spaces. Guests wishing to smoke may still do so from starboard outer decks, in designated areas in bars and lounges, and on stateroom and suite balconies. Ashtrays are available in designated smoking areas or by request through stateroom attendants. Violations of the smoking policy will result in cleaning charges to the guest's onboard account and may also be addressed through the line's Guest Conduct Policy, details of which are available both online and in all staterooms."

What is not well enforced?

Smoking is allowed in all cabins, as well as many designated areas of the ship. All dining venues and the main showlounge are non-smoking. Some of the smaller loungers are also non-smoking. One side of the ship on deck is smoking - the other non....signs are there, as well as the presence of ashtrays or not. These areas are definitely checked on and kept separate.

My god why on earth in this day and age would any cruise line allow smoking in all cabins.Thank god i am not going on Carnival,at least RCCL cares about it's passengers health and comfort to ban it most everywhere.I dont care if people smoke outside in an area away from the rest of us,but the last thing I want to pay $2000 to stay in is a cabin used by a walking chimney,I don't want to smell that crap for 6 days.

Several reasons, actually. First, not everyone who cruises is from the US with its increasingly health-conscious view toward smoking. Second, Carnival Paradise tried to be the first non-smoking cruise ship -- the line took a bath on that ship until they changed the policy. Third, unlike many land-based hotel rooms I've experienced, I truly have NEVER smelled "smoke" from a prior occupant on a cruiseship. They treat the bedding, the curtains, the carpet, etc. between sailings. I'll be curious to see what happens with RCCL's new policy over the next few months -- good for them if it works and makes them money!

As careful as they are about fires at sea, I'm surprised that they allow smoking in the cabins. You can't have an iron, but you can have matches or a lighter and a lit cigarette?

Makes a lot of sense, huh?

Just like I said - the non-smoking areas weren't well enforced on the cruise I went on. Outside, the "non-smoking" side had people smoking on it. I also experienced people smoking in the non-smoking lounge. People made their own ashtrays with glasses. I would consider that not well enforced.

I am extremely allergic to smoke. On none of our cruises have I been affected by the residual smell of smoke in the cabin.

Now, smokers in the casino is an entirely different topic!!

I too am allergic to smoke, and this has been one of my stresses about my upcoming carnival cruise. Good to hear!

When my husband and I sailed on Carnival Legend last month our room reeked of cigarette smoke. The bedding, in particular, was difficult to bear. So even though we, too, were "told" there was no smoking allowed in the staterooms apparently we were misinformed or people simply ignore this unwritten rule. Regardless, people on our cruise definitely smoked in areas where it wasn't allowed and we never saw any enforcement of the rules. The casino "no smoking" area was the biggest real joke as the slot machines positioned there are right next to the ones having ash trays. There was no barrier of any kind to keep any part of the casino free of smoke. This made us wonder why they bother to put up the no smoking signs at all.:(

We just got off the Carnival Pride yesterday - first time cruisers - and this is one of the things I was most concerned about. I have an acute sense of smell. Our cabin did not smell of smoke whatsoever, in fact it had no stale smell at all. I brought febreeze but never used it. I did use my plug-in febreeze.

We had heavy smokers in the cabin next to us and they smoked on their balcony. We had to leave our balcony whenever they decided to smoke and sometimes the smoke came through the closed door, although not overwhelmingly.

I observed an attendant on the lido deck asking a woman to put out her cigarette - she was on the wrong side of the ship.

We avoided the casino - the smoke radiating from it would horrify anyone concerned about secondhand smoke.

I don't even want to think of that scenario :( I'm an optimistic sort though and feel the odds are in our favor to have non-smoking neighbors :)

Even if it does happen, it will work out. A day or two into our cruise we got busy and they got busy and we didn't meet up with their smoke as often. I also was relaxed and not uptight about it as I would have been at home ;)

I wouldn't let it ruin our cruise, that's for sure. I find that the majority of smokers are considerate and would be aware of where their smoke is going.

MY god why would someone really care one way or another. Read the otehr posts from non smokers that said they didn't really notice it. Trust me the lines do not care about it's passengers and health and since some pay $2000 for a cabin they follow the rules and smoke accordingly. My wife is picky and hates smoke but she has never had a problem on a cruise and the cabin has never smelled like smoke. It is typical comments of the righteous like yours that normally causes any problems.

On my first cruise, we had a smoker next door - we couldn't smell anything but on the deck I was out there several times when he was smoking. After the first time, he leaned over the partition and said "I always smoke at this time with coffee". I have no problem with that - there are PLENTY of hours a day to sit on my balcony...I can avoid the one hour he spends enjoying coffee & a smoke!
