How important is the Cruise Director?

I don't think the Cruise Director is really that important. We rarely see them on Carnival. On RCL she was every where. We were on the Fantasy last summer and it was the most fun Carnival cruise we had as far as activities and getting the passengers involved. It was an Australian guy then who was the cruise director. The best deck party we ever went to was on the Fantasy.

I think having good cruise directors are important. They are responsible for making all the scheduled activities, entertainment, deck parties, etc, work. They also MC the evening shows, and having an energetic cruise director with a great personality is great.

The CD's presence is felt mostly at shows and events where they emcee.

If you don't do much of that you might not even notice your CD. If you attend some or many, then a really good CD can make them memorable.

On Voyager of the Seas, our CD came out before the ice skating show on skates and did a "pre-show" of his own, it was hilarious. He was aways funny and added value to the entertainment. But we've had CDs that were just, well, there.
