Jewellry prices on the Golden

On my recent (Sept 23) trip onboard the Golden, I took a look at their jewellry and saw a pearl necklace and earrings that I had purchased onboard the Carnival Freedom in March (exactly the same). When I asked about the price, it was $275, compared to the $150 I paid on the Freedom!! That is an astonishing difference and ensured that I did not purchase anything on board the Golden Princess.

I think you're better off buying jewelry on the islands. If you do buy on the ship, it's better to wait until the end of the week when they have sales.

How do you know that the necklace was exactly the same? There is a big difference in quality in pearls that cannot be detected with the naked eye. That being said, there is a big markup on all items on cruise ships. (Just check the price of asperin!) That is why it is possible for Princess to have their "promotions" of 50% off. This tactic is also prevalent in land based jewelry stores of questionable repute. (I used to work in one.) ;)
