Fourth Ship for Norwegian Cruise Line

Papenburg/Eemshaven - On 1 October 2007 Meyer Werft delivered the 93,500-gt cruise ship “Norwegian Gem” to the cruise company Norwegian Cruise Line (Miami, USA) in the Dutch port of Eemshaven. The “Norwegian Gem” is the fourth ship out of a series of four the Papenburg shipyard is building for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). The ship combines modern event gastronomy of NCL’s concept of “freestyle cruising” with extravagant interior outfitting meeting state-of-the-art technical demands.

Along with its new design, the luxury liner offers the passengers numerous specialities and a great deal of convenience: Some 70 per cent of the cabins are outside cabins, with most of them having their own balconies. Moreover, with its 1,100 crew, NCL offers the passengers outstanding service.

Both safety and entertainment meet the latest technical standards ensured by the diesel-electric pod propulsion system, interactive communication systems and sophisticated stage technology.

Upon delivery, the “Norwegian Gem” will leave Eemshaven in the Netherlands for Rotterdam, from where she will go on a mini cruise on 3 and 4 October, with 1,800 passengers on board. Starting on 6 October she will go on a two-night mini cruise from/to Dover to Amsterdam. On 8 October cruises into the Mediterranean will begin. In the winter of 2007/008 the ship will sail to the South Caribbean starting from New York
