NOLA casino busses?

We're thinking about taking a cruise out of NOLA the first week of December for our anniversary. We live in NW Houston. The Galveston ships don't have anything going on that strikes our fancy. NCL has a ship moving to New Orleans (the Spirit?) with one that does. We usually just drive to NOLA, but with what's happened to the city post-Katrina, I really don't want to leave our car there for a week. I also hate to spring for airfare. The casinos used to offer free round trip bus service from Houston. Does anybody know if they're still doing this and if so what are the parameters? I'm not a rule breaker, so if it requires a night's stay at Harrah's or $20 in the casino or something, I'd consider it. I'm looking for a cheap ride...not a free one. :)

Just drive and park at the cruise terminal. Your vehicle should be safe, it is my understanding the area is locked until the next Sun when ship returns.

We have gone out of NOLA twice before and left our vehicle with no problem and last time was when they were working at terminal and had to park in a fenced parking lot away from terminal.

We will drive in day before departure and stay in Kenner and Sun morning drive to terminal and park in parking garage.

Enjoy your cruise.

You may also want to check out hotels that offer parking at their hotels for a night's stay. There are several of them.

Can someone please post the names of hotels near the port? I am very unfamiliar with the area. Was considering driving down the day before my departure. Would be good if I could stay at a nearby hotel and negotate parking. I just noticed that the POLA went up on their rates. A few months ago it was $10 or $12 now its $14! That adds up when you are parking for 7 days. Thanks.

I think that there are several hotels that have a cruise special, where if you stay there for a night or two they let you park while you're on the cruise free. I know the Marriot Convention Center has an offer for that right now. Stay a night and get up to 7 days free parking. I used to have names of other hotels that have similar offers, but don't know where I put it.

Thank you for your reply. With some additional research I found this site which is linked to the Port Of New Orleans. It is: http://www.neworleanscvb.com/static/index.cfm/contentID/505/sectionID/2/subsectionID/0

Maybe this will help others who are looking for a place to stay near the port.

That's the one I was thinking about. The Marriott Convention Center isn't mentioned, but on their web site they offer a cruise special. The hotels that are in Kenner (where the airport is) aren't that close to the port, but just about anything downtown is - and anything by the Convention Center are the closest.
