CruisingCaraCat Posted March 24, 2009 #1401 Share Posted March 24, 2009 Can anyone tell me if the Monarch Casino has a Craps Table? Thanx, Erika Hi We just got off the 4 nighter embarking on 3/9. There is definitely a craps table and it is quite busy. In fact it seems to me there were as many tables for gaming as there are on the Voyager class ships. Not as many as Freedom class though. One thing that I experienced for the first time was the blackjack tables have a 6 dollar minimum bet instead of 5. You can play a straight 6 dollar bet or you can bet 5 and have a 1 dollar rider that on some tables if you blackjack you can spin the wheel and other tables if you get a matched pair totaling 20 you get 20 to one on your dollar. I have never seen this and I am not sure if I like it or not. Overall I think we actually made some money on that 1 dollar rider. As far as the shower curtain I am 6'2" and not that small and I didn't seem to have an issue with it. I was just extra careful. If you are so inclined I would recommend the sushi bar. It was some of the best I have ever had and the extra price is pretty minimal ( about 3 to 4 dollars per roll.) Overall a very nice ship and a great crew. torpeedo Posted March 29, 2009 #1404 Share Posted March 29, 2009 We will be booking a 4 night on the Monarch for July. We have sailed the Sovereign a few times. Question, is the Royal Viking Crown lounge cigar friendly as the Sovereign was?? Do they have entertainment in the later evening? Sovereign used to have some really nice singers in the evening. Hoping we can recreate the same thing! Thanks
jessalz Posted April 15, 2009 #1405 Share Posted April 15, 2009 wow this thread is great! i saw the post with the compasses, i can't remember who posted them, but thanks sooo much!! they were great, now i know what to expect on the ship. i was worried there wouldn't be much to do. are the comedy shows pretty funny or lame? me & my boyfriend are huge on comedy. also, my boyfriend is a smoker, where are the smoking spots? we are on deck 8, are there any smoking areas near there? oh & is the pool really open 24 hours? that would be awesome, since i don't plan on getting much sleep (lol) and i love pools. how is the pool that says it's for 18+? is it better/ more peaceful than the other? For smoking, you can walk down one deck to the promenade on deck 7 and go outside. I believe the starboard side is the smoking side, not sure? But there will be signs posted. Can't answer the other questions.
Irishnana Posted April 16, 2009 #1407 Share Posted April 16, 2009 Hopeful a recent Monarch cruiser can clarify whether MTD is available? We're sailing Monday on our first B2B and thought we might give this a whirl on one of the cruises, if offered. TIA, :)

newbiecruiser09 Posted April 16, 2009 #1409 Share Posted April 16, 2009 We sail a week after you.I (and my TA and others on our Roll Call) was told that MTD is available but you cannot book it ahead of time. I was told we would have to go to the "MTD desk" and sign up once on board.
paradise4me Posted April 16, 2009 #1410 Share Posted April 16, 2009 I know mtd is available. We just got off last week and saw alot of people using it. We did not use it so I don't know procedure.

dreadpirate3 Posted April 16, 2009 #1414 Share Posted April 16, 2009 Other than when it is emptied and refilled. One night I was restless and walking around the ship at 2 am. The pools were both empty with netting across them for safety. The hot tubs are 24 hrs for certain. Smoking is allowed on 7, 11, 12, and in the casino every day but formal night. Just keep an eye out for the signs to designate which side. There is a cigar smoking night in the Viking Crown lounge as well. You will love the cruise! Oh, and I enjoyed the comedian so much I went to the adult only show as well. Gina wow this thread is great! i saw the post with the compasses, i can't remember who posted them, but thanks sooo much!! they were great, now i know what to expect on the ship. i was worried there wouldn't be much to do. are the comedy shows pretty funny or lame? me & my boyfriend are huge on comedy. also, my boyfriend is a smoker, where are the smoking spots? we are on deck 8, are there any smoking areas near there? oh & is the pool really open 24 hours? that would be awesome, since i don't plan on getting much sleep (lol) and i love pools. how is the pool that says it's for 18+? is it better/ more peaceful than the other? weabcruiser Posted April 16, 2009 #1415 Share Posted April 16, 2009 Please don't get me wrong, I do not intend to try to smuggle a steamer on board, but my husband insist that he read we could have one... thats why I wanted to ask just so I prove him wrong! :) but the question I have is if you have a steamer in your suitcase do they open it up and get it out or are you called to the so called "naughty room" and you have to get it out yourself. Just in case he still does not believe me I want to know what to expect! :p Thanks!!
msjaxson Posted April 16, 2009 #1416 Share Posted April 16, 2009 well I have broughtt my steamer in the past and didnt on this cruise becuase it was short... ( if that makes any sense) so i don't know... I had never seen a table full of irons and steamers while debarking before... . just double checked the "official website" Q: What items are not allowed onboard the cruise ship? A: Aside from the obvious (and illegal) items not allowed onboard, there are other items we cannot accommodate onboard. These items will be confiscated upon being found. Prohibited items: Candles Coffee Makers Electrical Transformers (not including personal electronics: cell phone chargers, laptop power adapters etc.) Flammable Liquids and Explosives (such as fireworks) HAM radio equipment Hockey sticks Illegal Drugs Irons/Clothes Steamers Personal Alcohol Skateboards Surfboards

Cruisingboyo Posted April 16, 2009 #1418 Share Posted April 16, 2009 Hmmm hockey sticks? Am I missing something? :D Maybe a stupid question - Are hair straightners permitted onboard? Technically they are irons? Thank you in advance! I am now getting so excited about the Monarch now! P.S Do the Junior suites on the MON have bath tubs? My brochure just says certain ships? Anyone have any pics of junior suites they wouldn't mind sharing with me ? Thank you!

I've read somewhere that it is on the second night, but we will be in Nassau until 12 AM... Thanks It was Saturday on our cruise in December. So we just got back to the ship in plenty time to get ready. The dining room was fairly empty from all the people who stayed in Nassau.
cjhbeh Posted April 16, 2009 #1421 Share Posted April 16, 2009 We just came off the Monarch and did MTD. As soon as you board, go to the My Time Dining desk in front of Claude's on the fourth floor. The staff will confirm you prepaid gratuities and then they stick a sticker on your seapass card indicating you are MTD. You let them know what time you want to come to dinner that night and then you tell them after dinner about the time you would like the following night. We kept our table and waiters for the entire 3 night cruise. We sat by ourselves (family of six). I highly recommend it. I feel the food came more quickly because they were keeping things moving for the next group. Let me know if you have questions. Chantal

newbiecruiser09 Posted April 16, 2009 #1423 Share Posted April 16, 2009 Hmmm hockey sticks? Am I missing something? :D There was a thread about this a while back. I think it has to do with the ships that have the ice rink, not wanting folks to bring sticks for ice hockey. Maybe a stupid question - Are hair straightners permitted onboard? Technically they are irons? Thank you in advance! I am now getting so excited about the Monarch now! P.S Do the Junior suites on the MON have bath tubs? My brochure just says certain ships? Anyone have any pics of junior suites they wouldn't mind sharing with me ? Thank you! According to the layout on the website, and everything I have read on these boards they do have a tub. No pics but if I remember, I'll take some next week and post when I return. Can't help with the iron issue. Sorry
