Have a question about booking. Do you book the land part of the trip seperate or can you book it with the cruise. Not sure how this works. How long are most of the land tours?
Better to do land first then Cruise or other way around.
We are in our early 60's if this helps any with your answers.
Never did a cruise so am completely illiterate to how things work.

There are many choices. You can book through the cruise line, you can book direct with operators such as the ones at http://www.explorenorth.com/tours-motorcoach.html or you can do all the arrangements yourself (the research is easy now). Anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks or more is possible, depending on your interests. Definitely do the land tour first, then relax southbound on the ship.

Are you looking at a cruisetour??? I recommend 7 additional days- be very careful on what you purchase and understand fully what you are purchasing. Shorter tours have too much time in transit in my opinion. Be aware of the vast distances. Denali Park is a highlight for most- to have the most wildlife opportunities be certain to have the Tundra Wilderness tour included. Usually no meals are included on the land portion- budget about 50% more than at home for a cushion. It is also extremely easy to go on your own- can see twice as much for half the price, and the touring will be of your interests. Head to your library and take out Alaska touring books- Frommers Alaska and Fodors Alaska are good concise reading. The more you know the better choice you can make for yourself.
