Livorno to Siena on the train?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried to do this on their own? The cost for a private driver seems to have gotten unbelievably expensive (darn dropping dollar) and we really hate touring in large bus groups. I was hoping someone could tell me that this was doable. Thanks.

Yes, it is doable. However you won't have a lot of time there. Depart Livorno Centrale at 8:14, 2 stops to Empoli (via Pisa), change trains, the 8 stops before Siena with arrival at 10:14. Depart Siena at 14:41, arrive Livorno at 16:49. Same number of stops.

If Siena is a must see, I'd think about renting a car (not recommended unless you are familiar with Italian back roads) or hiring a private driver/guide. I've been there but have always driven (got lost the first couple of times.):D
