Newark Airport to Brooklyn terminal

We are flying in to Newark on Saturday at Noon and our cruise is leaving the Brooklyn terminal at 5:00pm, any suggestions on the best way to get from the airport to the terminal? How long will it take?

 

I'd love to here some responses from folks that have flown in to Newark sameday for a cruise leaving the Brooklyn Terminal.

We are flying in to Newark on Saturday at Noon and our cruise is leaving the Brooklyn terminal at 5:00pm, any suggestions on the best way to get from the airport to the terminal? How long will it take?

 

Beside the ubiquitous taxis (for which I assume you need no additional advice for using other than the fare . . . about $90), you can consider public transportation for a portion of the journey. The major problem with using public transportation is that the cruise ship terminal in Brooklyn is not within convenient walking distance of any subway station, and the local bus routes also do not directly or conveniently serve the terminal. But you can use public transportation quite readily from the airport to downtown Manhattan. With good connections, it will take about an hour.

 

To get to downtown Manhattan, first take either of these two routes from the airport to Newark Penn Station:

 

1. Ride the AirTrain from any of the passenger terminals at Newark Airport to the Newark Airport railroad station (about 5 minutes). At the railroad station a $7.75 fare collected for the combined AirTrain and railroad ride. Board a New Jersey Transit train at the airport station and go one stop to Newark Penn Station (about 6 minutes).

 

2. Board the New Jersey Transit no. 62 bus destined for Newark at any one of the bus courtyards that are at each of the Newark Airport passenger terminals. Pay $1.35 exact fare into the farebox. Alight at the last stop, Newark Penn Station (about 22 minutes).

 

Next, go the PATH train track. If you rode the train to Newark Penn Station, this is the track on the opposite side of the same platform at which you arrived. If you rode the bus to Newark Penn Station, then go inside the station, walk to the main concourse, and go upstairs to the platform serving track 1 and the PATH trains. You'll need to pay $1.50 at the turnstile to board the PATH train. Ride the train to the last stop, World Trade Center (about 20 minutes).

 

Go upstairs and flag a taxi on the street outside. It will take just a few minutes to go through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel and to arrive at the cruise ship terminal. The distance by taxi is about 4 miles, so the fare will be $10.50 plus $4.00 toll plus tip (about 10 minutes).

In other words, getting there from EWR is a pain. Because of our peculiar geography and taxi regulations that come into play because you're crossing state lines, it's better to arrive at LGA or JFK if you're leaving from Brooklyn.

With such a short time frame to make it to the port, your best bet is to arrange a car service to get you there (about $100.00 including tip). It can easily take an hour if traffic is heavy. Do a search on these boards for car service names. You only have 3 hours to make the ship. IF the plane is late or luggage is missing, you are going to have to really, really hustle to get to the ship. Please arrange a car service IN ADVANCE.
