Progeso/Merida on your own

Now that Costa Maya is out until 2009 and ships are going to Progeso as an alternative can anyone help with ideas of doing Progeso and/or Merida on your own?

 

What is there to see? Do they have lots of people hanging around the port as other ports have wanting to help you with excursions? Taxi?

Yes there are lots of tours that you can get on the pier. Also you might want to check out http://www.yucatantoday.com/eng-destinations.php Then click on Progreso or Merida. Just spend a little time on this site and you'll find LOTS of helpful info. Have a great trip!!
