leavitt1 Posted October 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2007 Hello everyone. I am going to be a bridesmaid in a close friend's wedding next April. We just picked the dress today, and I actually like it (Whew!)! :D Normally, I'd scoff if someone told me, "This is a bridesmaid's dress that you'll be able to wear again." But I'm thinking that maybe it would be okay for a cruise formal night in the future? Please let me know what you think. I'm very curious, though I won't be crushed if I'm told it's no good. Keep it mind, it is not me in the dress in the picture. Sadly, mine will have to be larger than the size 2 model in the pic. Thanks, Michelle
Peaches1117 Posted October 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2007 I think it is a beautiful dress and would be fine for a formal night. I have seen similar styles on my cruises. And the color is a very nice change from black!
ShedQueen77 Posted October 8, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2007 I agree. I'd 're-wear' it on a formal night too! :) It's such a pretty change from the standard black.
camperhawk Posted October 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2007 Hi the detailing on the front and the color is very pretty! Definitely one to wear again and a cruise would be the perfect time! Have fun!
iheartbda Posted October 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2007 Normally, bridesmaid dresses scream BRIDESMAID but this one does not! Just don't wear the matching dyed shoes, if your having them, as they are a dead giveaway.
kidznp Posted October 8, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 8, 2007 I think it is very pretty and would look lovely on formal night. I have seen many similar dresses worn. Thankfully, it does not have one of those big bows in the back:eek: or poofy sleeves.
ger_77 Posted October 8, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 8, 2007 It's a very pretty bridesmaid dress ... you should see some of the "confections" I've worn in the past. A couple were real doozies - teal taffeta with poofy sleeves and a big bow over my rear-end (like I needed more width). The other was a hot pink number with no sleeves, but the requisite bow over the a$$. Might just as well have put a "wide load" sign on each of us. Wow, am I glad the 80's are over!!! Oh, and did I mention the dyed to match shoes? You're going to look pretty on formal evening - make sure to get your pictures taken at a number of different locations onboard so you'll have different backgrounds to choose from. Let us know how it was when you get back. Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)
abba_dabba_doo Posted October 8, 2007 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2007 I don't think it looks too bridesmaidy at all! Love the color. And like the op said - just don't wear the matching shoes if you have them. Some pretty strappy sandals in silver would be nice.
hajekfam Posted October 8, 2007 #9 Share Posted October 8, 2007 Very few bridesmaid dresses today look "bridesmaidy". The days of ugly bridesmaids are fast going by the wayside and dresses are ones that can definitely be used again. What makes them "bridesmaidy" is having 2-3 or more people in the same dress and/or color in a group. Alone, most dresses look just any other formal dress. waiting2retire Posted October 8, 2007 #10 Share Posted October 8, 2007 It's a beautiful dress, and I too love the colour! Another dead giveaway that it's a bridesmaid dress would be the matching wrap. I would wear a different wrap with it, maybe silver with strappy silver sandals. If I wasn't a plus size now, I would love to wear this dress on a formal night. Enjoy! Bonnie
RachieLnnn Posted October 8, 2007 #11 Share Posted October 8, 2007 I agree, no matching wrap, no matching shoes. You will be lovely! What a great color. :)

Just stay away from matchy-matchy wraps and shoes and you can wear just about any current "bridesmaid" dress for other occasions, in my opinion. Payd Posted October 8, 2007 #13 Share Posted October 8, 2007 Very pretty dress...I would go for it on the cruise! I like the matching wrap but agree on no dyed to match shoes. Payd:)

jerseygirl63 Posted October 11, 2007 #15 Share Posted October 11, 2007 I think the wrap looks great with the dress. What a beautiful color and style. This dress will be the envy of formal night. Have a great cruise:)
mamaofami Posted October 11, 2007 #16 Share Posted October 11, 2007 I think the wrap looks great. Just wear silver sandals and have a great cruise.
luckycruzer Posted October 11, 2007 #17 Share Posted October 11, 2007 it shows rhine stone or crystal trims...a really spectac necklace (one that u wdnt wear at a wedding), or some lavender colored stone items..Sorelli makes lovely things tho pricey,,but alas, jewelry will out last dresses. Maybe a diff, multi color shawl, w/ same color in it..also ck fabric stores(take dress), and a quicki shawl can be sewn at home..it too will be around long after the dress is retired..silver threads will make it pop.
