allsalt Posted June 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Has anyone taken the dog sledding shore excursion in Alaska? Wondering if it it worth the price.
Yukon Posted June 5, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Which one? There are quite a few of them.
Budget Queen Posted June 5, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Yes there are several. But the glacier dog sledding gets consistant RAVES. But it is also the most canceled Alaska tour in Juneau with Skagway not far behind. I have been canceled twice. I think the wheeled option is best out of Seward with Seavey's. The bargain is out of Wasilla for $5.
Michelene Posted June 5, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Hi allsalt, I posted this a few days back, Hi GreyHairbill, We did this with Temsco booked via Princess on the Dawn last year. They collected us from the end of the Pier, short drive to the Heli terminal, changed our boots, removed layers of clothing, weighed us all, and off we went. This was without doubt the best day of the trip. I love dogs, love helicopters, and scenery blows me away, so I was in my element. I cannot recommend this highly enough. We spent a full hour and a half on the glacier with the pups, and our musher was wonderful. He rode on the sled in front, and we on the one behind. This is great, as the person on the front has some control and the one on the back is the camera operator. After a good chat with our musher, tour of the sled, intro to all the dogs, off we went. Absolutely brilliant. Too be in Alaska, riding a dog sled on a glacier, well, its hard to beat. After a good ride, and a few stops along the way, it was puppy time. Each musher owns his own dogs, so if you are lucky the one you get will have pups, but they are all so friendly it won't matter. After all of this, back onboard, for the fight back down. We had a pilot from England, and as we are from Australia, a few digs about the cricket and a joy flight was on. I am going to drag out my movies now, sit down with my pup and watch and remember. Do it. Whatever way, ship or direct with Temsco, just do it. Have I raved enough, Michelene

allsalt Posted July 10, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted July 10, 2004 Took the Temsco trip out of Skagway (via Radisson Mariner cruise) and loved it. The one out of Juneau was cancelled the day before, but apparently the one out of Skagway goes more often due to location of the dog camp. A great experience and worth the cost! unvrknow Posted July 13, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 13, 2004 We just did the Dog Mushing in Skagway with Temsco. It was great. The helicopter ride to the glacier was wonderful, the scenery was beautiful. Dog mushing was great fun. We had fantastic weather, we actually took our coats off on the glacier and we're just in long sleeve shirts. It was a fantastic excursion, well worth the price. Have a great time!!
